I understand that a few mentalists combine the two, but how?
I am currently more of a beginner mentalist, so Dr Zodiac don't start shouting at me; I understand that you do a bit of both. And I don't mean anything like escaping from handcuffs and reading someone's mind. I mean it as more of a hobby for my persona, as I do have an interest in escapology and once the hobby of magic becomes a job, you have to find a new hobby, so why not something a bit different and on the dark side of things, a bit disturbing. Collecting padlocks, handcuffs, etc. Any books, videos, ideas, or comments would be of great help. Regards, Alex.

I'll speak softly, LOL. I feel so honored to be known for my big MOUTH!
I like combining the two. Escapology is my hobbie as well. Mentalism is my love and job. I like the ideas that have been expressed on the sideshow forum like, escaping from a preset combination lock within X amount of time or you'll be hung (Or what have you). Also knowing ties and cuffs aids in my seances. Alex, welcome to the world of escapology! I can HIGHLY recommend Shawn X-Treem Ness's book, Your Fly is Down located at http://www.strictlyunderground.com also he has some videos which teach how to escape from cuffs. Steve Santini also has some great books which teach the secondary art of concealment (hiding keys) as well as teaching the art of escapology methodology and how to gimmick cuffs. (I just saw my name and had to reply, sorry)Now boys and girls say hi to Alex! |

Well thanks Dr Zodiac, I too have a love for mentalism and find escapology very interesting (and it has a great name) I feel it could add a lot to my charecter and as I've read before, come in handy if I'm ever locked out of my house.
Thanks for the recommendations, it was looking at StrictlyUnderground.com that got me thinking. More suggestions and ideas of how to combine the 2 effectively welcome. Alex.

I hint that escapology was a side effect of my interest in yogi introspection and mind-over-matter.
