Personally, I have always put my manipulation acts together in a modular fashion. This was probably because Richard Ross was my hero and that is how he did it. The modular approach makes a great deal of sense for commercial reasons, because you can give your client what they want in terms of time.
But I want to add a note of caution here: If you don't put your modular act together carefully it can sometimes appear to be a hodgepodge of tricks. I think that some of the best acts have a unifying element that seems to tie the whole show experience together. This unifying element could be something related to the personality or character of the performer or a theme of some kind. Or it can be something as simple as my friend Paul Potassy's use of a magic salt shaker throughout his show in order to make the magic happen. Whether a performance is 6 minutes long or 90 minutes long, I think it is best to have the audience feel that they have seen a show with a beginning, a middle and an end. A modular act can do this, only if they have been sequenced deftly. Best regards to all, Levent http://www.LeventMagic.com http://www.MagicQandA.com
