Hey all,

What do you recommend for a good theme to build a Wordpress business website? I do balloons and magic. I'm looking for something professional-looking with little or no resemblance to a blog and very pic/vid friendly. Recommendations? Thank you.

Atahualpa is an amazingly flexible theme that I use quite a bit. http://wordpress.bytesforall.com/?p=94

You do need to have some basic knowledge of HTML/CSS to be able to really take advantage of the customization options.

My theme is Genesis http://www.puremagiclive.com

My site has a huge "header" (the part with the photo and logo). The genesis theme does not usually have that, we just changed the size. The info on the right(upcoming shows, reviews and map) are all added as widgets. The theme I went with had an option to put widgets and other info the right as well as putting info like that on the left (which I didn't use).

My site really doesn't look anything like the other genesis theme sites.

Remember with word press, everything is pretty customizable. And really easy to work with. The reason I choose the theme I did, is because I liked how it could be laid out. Columns on the side, navigation along the top.

Thanks all. Gman, I downloaded SEO, there are a lot of fields to fill in. What do I need to know about this thing to make it effective? Thanks.

After you download it and activate it you will need to fill out the following:

home title: put the title of the site here.

home description: put a description of the site here.

home keywords: put your keywords for the site here make sure you use commas.

That is it. Oh and for the title keep it within 65 charecters. Decription keep it to 150. The same goes for when you are posting and creating pages. For posts and pages I normally use one or two keywords.

Here is a link to a report on wordpress basics. http://www.wordpress-master.com/free-wordpress-basics-report Heard it was pretty good. Hope this helps.

To be honest I have yet to see the real benefit of having wordpress or any blog for that fact. Most of the things you do with a blog can be done with a static site for the most part.

The Benefit...
#1
a dynamic site that pings agrigators (wordpress has this built in)
will get search engines to them MORE often, FASTER

and outrank a static site 10 to 1 with LESS work

#2
Wordpress lets you focus on being a magician and not being a webmaster

#3
Google loves Blogs

#4
Google caffine loves Blogs

#5
Did I mention search engines love these things..

It's about marketing and ISYOT
With a static site your not going to compete with someone who has a base knowledge of SEO and Wordpress. They will outmarket you at every turn.

they will need a good show to get repeat clients but will get more new clients than the rest of the people in their area
