I've decided that I would like to have a memorized tarot stack which has lead me to try and develop one. I'm trying to figure out what kind of things should be built in. So far I had thought that I could settle on a deck and try and arrange the cards in a way so that there were stock readings built in, maybe both a positive and a negative reading for a few different categories (travel, education, relationships, career etc).

Just wondering if anyone else out there has done anything like this or has any other ideas.

Curious territory to say the least. If you are doing readings, where is the feel of authenticity if you nail it perfectly? And what would be the entertainment value of a reading for an audience? I am not slamming your idea at all, please understand that. But, you may find that "pat" readings might just bite you.

I too am curious about whether you are weakening the reading when you are mixing it with magic and/or mentalism. The Tarot lends itself to EXTREMELY powerful mentalism, and MANY card effects take on a whole new character when Tarot is used instead of regular playing cards.

All of this being said, an in depth study of the Tarot along with sharp cold reading skills - yes, just like a "good" fortune teller - is going to serve you MUCH better based upon what your post implies. The techniques of fortune tellers are well known among magicians and we can trip them easily. But, you also risk a similar difficulty with a non-magician audience. People will accept magic and mentalism. But mixing in Tarot readings at least as I see it, is asking for trouble. How will your audience perceive you? Are you a magician or a fortune teller? Will one weaken the other?

I am working on a Tarot version of Martyn Smith's "Up the Ante". The effect is great already as Martin created it, but, the Tarot brings a darker feel to it that may appeal to some.

How about this approach: create a Tarot stack that includes some of the strongest effects designed SPECIFICALLY for the Tarot? The Book of Thoth would be a GREAT resource. T.A. Waters has done extensive work with the Tarot and Rick Maue has some WONDERFUL routines. Robert Neale's Life, Death, and Other Card Tricks really shines when you do the effects in the book with Tarot. You could also include standard card effects along with Tarot specific effects.

But, perhaps I am not clear based upon the brevity of your post, so, I would be interested to get a better sense of how this would work with magic and mentalism.

Namaste,
Vlad

I can understand why nlokers want stacked deck as I was wondering how to do this same with my card. Of course Tarot is strong thing but with direct mind reading it can be a power.
