Yesterday, I did my first ever real magic thing, where I did close-up with another kid my age and a pro. It went great! Once I got the hang of it, I was impressing people. I mainly did an ace routine. The other kid was amazing... ropes and sponges and things... he did them perfectly. And the pro was there to mentor us and intervene occasionally. He's really smart. I learned so much... about routining, patter, getting the audience involved, improvising, and so much more. Hopefully I will find another opening, build a few more good routines, and amaze more audiences!!!

Satellite23, that is great! I remember my first show. I was TERRIFIED! As soon as I heard the first applause, I calmed down, and the rest of the show was a breeze. Man, ain't that a great feeling? Really it all comes down to practice and rehearsal.
Ya know what you have today, that I didn't? Camcorders. I had a MIRROR and that was it. Use a camcorder to record your progress. You'd be surprised at how far you can progress that way. You'll see it the way the audience sees it. Congratulations! Doug |

Keep it up Sattelite23! Every show you do after this one will give you more and more confidence and make it that much easier to entertain your spectators.

So, now you're hooked! First good show for the public is an exhilarating and key experience, congrats. The NEXT key experience will be a bad show. It will happen. Nobody bats 1000. So when it happens just let your breath out and say, "Okay, I knew it was coming, now its over."

Congrats! getting out there and "doing it" is the only way to really get good at what you do. In home practice will let you learn the "moves", but real world performances are what help you learn to ENTERTAIN. Just don't forget magic isn't just to fool people, you're supposed to entertain - Magic is the tool you're using to do that. Now get out there and keep up the good work!

Dear satalite23,
Congratulations! And this is only the beginning. I'd also like to give a shout out to the Pro. who is mentoring you. Your story makes it clear that this kind of involvement makes a difference. - Mary Mowder |

I think the real key here is that you learned things that no amount of practice in front of a mirror can teach you. Best of luck at your next show and keep your mind open to learning how to work with different audiences. We want to hear from you with more success stories.

That's awesome! There just isn't any "adrenaline rush" quite like being in front of an approving audience. Hope you have MANY years of great rushes!

Eve experience after the show where that rush is coming down but you feel, absolutely exhilarated? (and exhausted!)
