Richard,
With two dogs here, there is plenty of yellow snow in the back yard! Gimpy, Ahhh, coincidence?? I have a bowl full of avocados here to make guacamole tomorrow. Thankfully, I did remember the chips. A few folks coming over to watch the Super Bowl, so I'm making a taco bar. Go Packers!!

Green Bay eats green avocados? (In that case, wouldn't you hate to be a Colt?)
Folks here in Alabama miss you guys. But it was 55 degrees here today! Bob and Lucy |

I'm not one to brag.. but It was in the mid 70's here in LA yestreday.. had to open the window in the shop as it's on the second floor and was just too hot.
The Sales on the new topsy turvy bottle trick I'm selling has been better than salt and snow shovels at Home Depot this season!!! I don't even have my website up and running (by monday if all goes well!!!) and I've sold over 70 of the original 100 run. I NEVER expected that... Click here to view attached image. |

EpIFany,
I had to look at your profile page to realize who you were! Very good to see you on these boards! Stay in touch! makeupguy, I saw the ad for your Coke Bottle effect not long ago and was impressed at how good it looks. I am envious of your skills with the materials you work with!

Wonderful work! I am always impressed with the number of different effects you work on at the same time. All with a new twist and the wonderful finish work. If I ever hit the lottery, I will want one of everything.

I'm dragging this thread out of the basement to show one of my latest toys for myself.
I recently acquired a used Vienna Magic Vanishing Radio, and wanted a different look for the table that came with it. The original table had been replaced in favor of something more durable, but I needed something that spoke more to my performing style. Since the radio style is quite retro, and I wanted to add this to my Halloween shows, I decided to give this an abstract look that would justify both the radio and the show theme. Can you hear the cassette deck blaring out, "Monster Mash"??

The vanishing victrola was an effect marketed by Bartl in Germany in the 1920's. WW Durbin (one of the mainstays of the IBM) ordered one in. When it arrived to customs in Cleveland, they could not figure out what it was so they cut the package open with a saw and ruined it. He had to order another one.

In that case it was probably the customs office, and not a magician. I'll have to poke around Thayer and see if anyone has photos of one of those... or even better, the actual item!!

I have seen it someplace but I can't remember where. As I recall, the real record player was under the fake one on top.
Yes, I guess he ate the cost. Horace Marshall never told me. But Durbin had a lot of clout in Ohio. He was really politically entrenched. That was later he become secretary of the Treasury under Franklin Roosevelt. Richard

Wow Michael, I just re-read this thread from the beginning, and am so moved. Two of magic's greatest craftsmen bantering about the nuances of their shops and the changes in weather...just normal Café chit-chat...then bang...we lose Tabman. Kind of puts the fragility of life in perspective.
I wish Magic or Genii Magazine would think out of the box and publish these threads for everyone to read. They are indeed real life, and real magic.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

I really wish one of the magazines would do an article about Tabby. I don't ever recall seeing one, and it is not only overdue, it is a crime that he wouldn't be able to read it. He was a great craftsman, and a great friend... to many, many people.
