Is anyone performing safety themed tricks? I've been doing a fire safety show for about 8 years. It's time to expand into some different safety categories, like poison, head injury, choking/strangulation, gun safety, and drowning prevention for example. I would love to brainstorm with you. Thanks.

Keith,
I do a routine using the one way traffic sign, which I then follow up with a "crossing the road safely" talk. It works ok to get the kids interest (they are about 5 years old), and then they pay attention when we move onto the more serious stuff. I use a Mikey (from Monsters Inc) on a paddle for my Little Green Man; he changes into a little red man when he gets it wrong (crosses the road at the wrong time)! It helps them learn about using the crossings. Take care, James. |

Thank you James and Flourish Dude for your input. I've also made a connection with another regular Café user who does water safety shows in New Zealand. I was not familiar with David Ginns safety show book. I will check it out.

I do own the Wagner book. Definately a good resource. Thanks Den & FD for the info. I'm off to a good start. If anyone happens to brainstorm a fresh idea, I'd love to hear about it. I appreciate the input.

Hi,
i don't do a safety show but it seems to me there are a lot of kids following the poor examples set in the "Jack Ass" show and movie. Perhaps you could do a jazzed, think first show. "Dude Don't Do It?" Skate board and bike stunts are big, too. Sorry just a little brian storm. Not a bad idea though really. Routine and props suggestions? Stage setting? Anything to add?

Jewls,
I like your way of thinking. I've got a ventriloquist puppet that would be perfect for this. He could talk about wanting to go do some of the stunts he sees on TV. I could help him realize how dangerous it is and sometimes they are professionals who do these things as experts. Or, as in the Jack Ass example, those people are being unsafe and not using their heads... Blah, blah, blah. I'll work on this line of thinking. |

I do a lot of safety magic shows for daycare centers. The director and parents love it as much as the kids.
