Wow, you are turning into a list machine! (*)
I remember reading King's novels decades ago, when he was getting started. Then there was a LONG gap, during which I read none of his books (just sort of forgot about him as an author, I suppose). A few years back, though, I read Cell. Which, I thought, was a pretty good story up until the last 4 or 5 pages. FWIW, looking at the book's Wikipedia page just now, I see that King received complaints about the ending of the book and redid it for the upcoming movie's screenplay. I noticed King's newish novel Under the Dome in the bookstore a while back. Looks sort of interesting. I might pick it up, once it is in softcover. (*) I am tempted to do a "The 10 Best LobowolfXXX Posts on the Magic Café".

I refused to read Stephen King (except his short stories once when sitting around and found a copy) for the longest time. My mom gave me The Green Mile and I thought it was very well written and interesting. I've not read anything else by him.

I would certainly have "the stand" at number one. Several of my friends are obsessed with the dark tower stuff.

I was never really a Stephen King fan, but The Green Mile is a very good read.

I gotta admit, I skim read "Carrie" back when I was a teenager, and found it to be a truly awful book, so I never read anything of King's ever again.
I suppose that may have been a mistake, but it's not a mistake I have regretted. |

I find older King much more enjoyable, though I would have hard time listing top 10, but my favorite books are:
The Stand It The Dark Half I'm pretty sure I have read almost all of King's novellas but only a few have made an impression: The Mist (ok, so its a bit long for a novella, but it is a part of a compilation) The Jaunt Mrs. Todd's Shortcut Now I still wish someone would do Peter Jacksons on The Stand and make it into a looong feature film, the miniseries they did in the 90s doesn't really make the book justice, though most of the cast is brilliant.

I really like Salem’s Lot and the Shinning. I recently went to Estes Colorado and visited the Stanley Hotel (King’s inspiration for the hotel in the Shinning). I read the Shinning again and enjoyed it. I hope to re-watch the movie and watch the TV miniseries of it that was filmed years ago.

Destiny, you are, of course, correct, IT scared the s**t outta me as a kid.
I have been to some hotel, and I thought it was where they filmed most of the outside, and it wasnt the Stanley. I also thought that's where he got the idea... The inside was, like most Kubrick, filmed in london.

The reason is this: I don't give a rat's tail about ANY of the characters. Danny doesn't really show any cool smart-kid chops to offset his general weirdness and goofy expressions. Wendy was REALLY annoying and whiny, and Jack, well, Jack was Jack. So ultimately, I couldn't have cared much less about who lived or died; I just wanted some of them to die SOON. And then they didn't. It had nice moments, and I don't find it unwatchable or anything; just hard for me to really get into a film when none of the characters has any appeal to me.

I got halfway through Cujo and it bored the crap out of me. Gave him another shot with Carrie, didn't think much of it either.
I read two of the Gunslinger books and liked them though. So I guess the Gunslinger books would be the whole of my "best of" list. I prefer Clive Barker. "The Hellbound Heart" is probably my favorite modern horror novella.

Lobowolf,
Since you included The Stand in this thread and also did the Metallica thread, should I mention "Among the Living"? B. PS I mostly agree with your list for King...

I heard they are making the Gunslinger series into a set of movies and miniseries. That's pretty sweet. I like most of King's movies.
And "Pet Semetary" is my favorite Ramones song.
