I love watching magic, and at times, most of the fun for me, is either being puzzled about how something works, or finding creative (yet most of the time unrealistic) solutions to what I've just seen.
I've been around close-up magic long enough to puzzle things out for myself occasionally, but being recently exposed to stage magic (try http://www.luisdematos.com for some brilliant head scratchers, my favourite at this moment being "Time and Space"), my question to you is this. Do you ever get stumped when you see illusions performed. David. |

I wouldn't be human if I didn't.
I find myself being more fooled with close up magic than illuisons. I haven't seen an illuison in a long time that has had be wondering too long, but I see close up magic that blows me away alot more frequently...And let me just say this, after being around magic for so long now, I LOVE being fooled, it brings back that feeling I had when I was kid that brought me into the art in the first place. When I was younger I loved being fooled and I used to love just looking at al those exotic animals and beautiful boxes that seemed to make all sorts of pretty girls appear. Who wouldn't right, I was amazed and I wanted to be able to give others the same feeling I got when I saw a show or even visited a magic shop. Being fooled brings out a moment of disbelief in me, and keeps me young at heart, I never want to lose that. P.

This may seem odd, but I always find myself more often then not, not wanting know how some effects are done. (well unless I plan to perform it ) I find it keeps me inspired and keeps me dreaming.

I get fooled by quite a few tricks. I know how most stage illusions work, mostly because of books I have read and things I've learned from other magicians. There are a still a few large illusions that do stump me. There are a lot of close-up magic tricks that fool me.
I enjoy being fooled, but at the same time I go crazy trying to figure out a trick works. I tend to become obsessed with solving how it is done. In the past I’ve sometimes even spent money just so I could learn a secret, although today I only buy things that I think I will perform. Some of best performers sometimes amaze me even though I know the secret to a trick they do. It is almost a cliché in magic, but it’s their presentation that impresses me. For some tricks, the best magicians can actually make you WANT to suspend disbelief and fall for their misdirection. I could post a very concrete example of when this happened to me recently, but it’s somewhat off-topic.
Humans make life so interesting. Do you know that in a universe so full of wonders, they have managed to create boredom. Quite astonishing.
