No need to apologize! That's the kind of enthusiasm that is all too often missing these days. Everyone thinks it's "cool" not to react. (Actually, it's just dull not to react) I'm with you 101 per cent, Diva: Magic rocks! |

The self floating folding bill is probably the best bar trick I know. For those of you that don't know it you borrow a bill make it float and while it floats it folds it self three times before landing safetly in your hand and returned folded to the spctator.
This is an invention of Stefan Schutzer and it is the best bar trick as far as I'm concerned. Jonas Karlsson Vibono Magic Sweden

Well, if we're looking for the biggest reaction, then I would say "Mystic Ashes" or some have called it "Voo Doo Ashes". VERY strong reactions.
Quite simple, and may be a tad over-exposed, but can't beat the reactions! - - Troy

Sponge Balls have always gotten the biggest reaction for me, however my Hopping Halves routine gets people pretty excited as well

I still have great reactions from the trusty old Invisible Deck. It is one of the only gimmicked item I use in my walk around magic. I do after a lot of other standard deck tricks and just do a swap out.

I am in a relatively unique situation when I perform in that besides doing magic, I also have to put money in the cash register.
Working behind a bar I do not have the luxury of just doing the magic so anything that I do has to be relatively short, visual and to the point. I think I've been doing the same effects for the past 23 years. Every once in a long while I'll add something new but that generally takes a long time before it is actually at performance level. So let's see: Sponge Rabbits - Especially for the ladies and they don't roll like balls do. Card under Drink - I get away with it most of the time. Getting caught gets you better. Chop Cup Routine - With Cocktail Shaker Invisible Deck - Great reaction. Some routines with coins - ideally quarters since they are most common. A few card routines - Unusual locations, Red Hot Mama, Color Monte, etc. One problem with cards - The Bar is usually on the wet side. Borrowed Ring On Shoelace/String Ring On Rope - Not too many phases. I guess that's about it. All of the routines are strong and get a good reaction. Oh, almost forgot. Coin in Bottle. Take Care, Vincent |

Might want to add a copper/silver transposition using a borrowed coin to that list of effects worth performing. It's one of the few I kept on my 'vacation'.

My brother may do a trick and it goes over well. I flop at it, because I'm not doing it well. I try doing it in a different way, change things around a little, then it works its way out.
It's just the way you handle the trick you are doing.

I get frustrated some times by the requests for sponge balls. You work so hard on some routines and they want to see the "little red balls".

This my top five:
1. floating a dollar do this last or you'll be begged all night. 2.lit cigarette vanish. 3 the invisible deck (wow this is why I'm here) 4.the Raven... and 5 signed card routine with Triumph in the hands and a Card to Wallet ending. 2 card monte should be here somewhere too. |

I am also currently "knocking them dead" consistently with Jay Sankey's Key Deposit combined with a spellbound move.
I hand them a key and the take a key tag (like a dog tag) and visibly remove the hole!!! I then slowly place the hole onto the key in the spectator's hand. It looks AMAZING!!! and I have rigged it up to sit on my key ring all the time. |

The tricks that I do that get the best reactions, are Card to Pocket, the Invisible Deck, floating things.

An effect in which they are intimately involved, as both Peters note, as well as others, is the one they will remember. Sponge balls, the Potsherd Trick (ashes in hand, especially Heba Haba Al's routine with a sugar cube and a glass of water), copper/silver in their hand, Crazy Man's Handcuffs (while they hond one of the bands) all are effects people will remember well into senility. My favorite is the sponges because of the spectator's reactions. And if you count all the tricks others posted in this topic, you will notice more deal with the sponges.
