Yes, the economy is bad. But the following guy wants to make it worse for other magicians. He put together a site called MyDini. It is exposing so many of the skill we put our time in for. I am not going to be a sucker to join.
I received the following email: Fellow Magician~ I invite you to be the very first to check out a new online magic concept, MyDini (beta). Most of the great magic that I have learned over the years has come directly from experienced magicians at lectures or in the back of a magic shop. MyDini brings these experienced magicians out from the back of the shop, and into our homes… allowing anyone with a passion for the art of magic to share it with the world. Mydini is a project that was conceived to be a forum for magicians to share in great magic. The Concept MyDini is entirely user generated content. It allows users to watch both the performance and the explanation performed by the magician himself. Anyone can post content, and likewise any magician can both watch and post tricks. Magicians can get paid for their original work by posting it as a premium trick. Each time a premium trick gets downloaded, the magician who posted it gets paid $3, and the house gets $2. A magician must post two regular “free” videos on the site before they can post a premium trick. The goal is to have an encyclopedia of magic videos that can serve as a great resource for all magicians. MyDini is a unique place on the web, and I invite you to be a part of it. Please check it out, get registered, watch magic, post content, and get paid. Register Today for Free at MyDini. Thanks, John the Magician Magickohl@yahoo.com jdkohl@gmail.com |

Does this have to be original content or are they selling other people's Magic?

Mike, your concerns are noted and understandable. However, it appears this is for original content, not previously published material. If the site owner has some safeguards in place to avoid widespread exposure, it may well be a useful resource.

If the site is totally open on the web, all can be seen and exposed.
I would like to see one trick or magic effect, that does not use any previous move, method, or theory that was previously published in some form. I have yet to see a totally, original magic effect. Then this is very limited to the type of magic, as with any effect, workshop plans would have to provided. From the email, it stated the person attended lectures and will make these available on the site. That is not original material to him. Sounds like he is giving other peoples material away. |

If 100% of the explanations had a fee, I would look at it different. But so many are free. A lot of the free ones deals with what we put so much time in to learn the skill, the card back palm for example.

Ummmm... read any return policy in a magic shop..
"Your Purchasing the KNOWLEDGE" is what MOST of the ones I have seen say. These videos are YOUTUBE and are 100% public and he is showing how purchased items work. http://www.youtube.com/user/Magickohl not only that he is charging $5 and teaching things that are being sold Like to "Soda Can Restoration" Which is "Healed and Sealed" which is selling for $15 at magic shops This is bad...

Oh, swell. I had clicked over to a different page before and missed all the free videos. Yep, right out there with no safeguards. Sigh.

Well Mike, nice job of advertising his site. No one heard of it till you just made it known. It's best to just keep these sites secret like we do our methods, that's how to avoid exposure.

Whatever you do, don't contact him with an angry tone or agenda. He needs educated.
Negative attention might give him a martyr complex and he'll really post stuff to get even. (Hope he doesn't read this)

Nash,
If someone hacks his site they just broke federal LAW and can spend up to 10 years in prison.. some of the effects are OWNED by others and they need to contact him and ask that it be removed.. the site is in violation of the DMCA and if he refused to take it down (if notified by the copy holders) they then can send a letter from a lawyer to his hosting company who will remove it because they can be held liable. He can also be sued for making PROFIT off of protected information.. some of the things on his site are old enough to be public domain but not all of them. so if you know how to contact the copy holders of some of these effects SEND THEM A LINK and let them know that the site is in violation.. the site is currently sitting on bluehost and they will yank it if notified by the copy holder

Mike Clay gave GOOD ADVICE????? OH sure it's really ethical (you are complaining about jdkohl's ethics) to hack into any site. Mr. Brooks, cover your butt with people liked dynamike around he thinks it's ok to hack into the Café site.

I agree with you, Jibby. It is not Paddy's first time for posting nonsense like that. But you have to understand Paddy will put anything to turn a comment around on any website forum so he will get attention. That is his way of tricking people so he would be noticed as a magician. Since I do not have any time for him, I am going to ignore him throughout the rest of this thread.

No Mike I don't turn comments around. I speak 8 languages fluently and what is written is important. In fact, I did screw up and quoted Mr Nash and mistakenly thought it was said by Mike Clay. Mr Clay did not say what I said he did and I apologize to both you and Mike Clay. My last line does apply to me.

We should all post the torn and restored napkin, the floating pencil, and taking your finger off on his site 10 times each. We can combat exposure with uploading a bunch of worthless junk on his site.
