I was almost certain the girl was gonna win. I am much happier that Grimm won though. That kid freaks me out. She has phenomenal talent, but not one genuine emotion at all. Little sociopath.

There are those who can be genuinely happy for their competitor, and be a good sport about it, but they will still show some sign of a change in emotion at a moment like that.

I think the host was jealous of her talent or something as he kept saying "she always knows what to say!"
A little girl singing opera doesn't convey Las Vegas showroom though. I couldn't picture the target market. That Grimm guy is hilarious. He wins $1,000,000 (well over 40 years) and what's the first thing he does? He gets married..

They were both great. I couldn't disagree more, Jackie was a great little kid. I guess you didn't see her jumping up and down when she had a good performance.
I'm glad Michael won as he will help his grandparents (hopefully). Jackie will go on and have a great career. |

So, will someone who doesn't sing ever "win?" I put quotes around win, because it seems to becoming more and more obvious how rigged it is. I guess it's easier for them to make money off of a singer. Though before the first season they said that they wanted to find the next Siegfried and Roy.
On one episode this season, there was some type of trapeze act. After their performance, Piers Morgan said something about them being magicians. What he said sounded almost just like what he said to a magician that performed a couple of acts before. It seemed like it was scripted, that he slipped up, and forgot who he was actually talking to. I could be reading too much into what happened though. |

Singers will always have the advantage. There is an infinite pool of material, and no stigma in performing the work of others. Having a magic act qualify, and then top each performance 3 times, seems pretty unlikely.
I thought the talent this year was great. The black art act was incredible. And the guy on the bicycle was very impressive. Particularly how he performed after being injured. They should do next year without singers.

At least a limit on singers.
It's ironic that, in one of the earlier seasons, one of the judges commented about how they did not want to focus on singers as they don't need another American Idol

I don't remember that comment, I do, however, remember Piers making a comment, during the first or second season, about them "Looking for the next Frank Sinatra." The winner every season has been a singer, with Terry Fator being somewhat of an exception. Where are any of the winners from previous seasons now, again, apart from Terry Fator?
It's funny...Recycled Percussion didn't win, though they now have their own Vegas show, there was another semi-finalist from a few years back that are in their own Vegas show as well. The show is great exposure, that's clear. I guess if you want a Vegas show...don't win. |

I think whatever wins will have the majority of tryouts the next year. Get some homely old broad who can sing, homely people line up who can sing. They need a show called "Side Show" or something and get jugglers and the real variety acts out there. Get Aye Jaye, Todd Robbins, and Snake Babe to be judges.
I think the problem with AGT is not only does it attract freaks and mental cases but the judges actually let the occassional one through to the real comp (final 40 or whatever it is). The show isn't valid entertainment in my opinion. I only watched to see the magic acts and any hot singer girls (over 18...I'm still distrubed by the guy who thought when I said 'hot girl' thought I meant a ten year old...sicky). Other than that I had zero interest in them or their bs stories. |

Last I looked into them one member was in some legal trouble. Fighting Gravity will probably end up with their own show too. At least Grimm could draw a crowd in Vegas, where as an opera singing socio- I mean ten year old wouldn't have a big showing, talented as she is. I'm surprised I haven't heard more from Kevin Skinner from last year. As for winners in general, it's just like American Idol, look at Clay Aikin, how many really remember Ruban? Runner ups often do better than the winners

Last I heard, Reuben was touring in Ain't Misbehavin'. It was in town a few years back with him, got a fair amount of press. I hope to see more from Prince Poppycock, he's highly entertaining, whether you're a fan of opera or not. As for Jackie Evancho, she'll find success in some fashion, I'm sure, but she should enjoy spending time as a kid.
