Easiest way to avoid virus' is to not let kids near the computer.

Worse virus I ever got that actually shut down my system was when I looked up the manual for a new DVD player on line. I went to the site that said it was for the manual, hit download, and there came the virus.

I picked up a virus that completely destroyed my registry and removed all boot files, which was a major pain in the ass...thankfully I had made a clone of the drive a week earlier and was able to get back up fairly quickly.

Can one get around a virus by using "System Restore"? Just pick a date before the virus hit your computer. Or won't that work?
If I were to agree with you. Then we would both be wrong. As of Apr 5, 2015 10:26 pm I have 880 posts. Used to have over 1,000

Alas, there's a lot of software I use for work - risk analysis, portfolio analysis, bond market simulation, and so on - that doesn't run on a Mac.

At least, not yet.

I gotta say this always amazes me. I watched the movie Independence Day and they managed to link from a wireless network of some sort to a darn ALIEN COMPUTER and a Mac can't talk to a PC for God sake. Oh well.

Theoretically. But that's a bit extreme. If you have a particularly nasty virus, that might be the best choice...like with a boot sector virus (hope you never get one). Using a quality scanner like Norton/Symantec, with weekly (or daily) virus definition updates and weekly (or daily) scans will do you better.

I agree: it amazes me, too.

Still, that's the way it is.
