I've been putting off buying a new wireless. Now I'm even less sure. Does anyone know what this means? Edd

I don't think you need to worry about this most of the wireless mic systems use bands in a different range. You can check the information on the box of the wireless you select and it will tell you what regulations it complies with.

It means a LOT of things. I think what you need to know for a purchase is:
- Do not buy anything that is between 698MHz-806MHz. This is usually nicknamed the "700MHz band". - Check with the manufacturer to find out which of their systems is recommended for your vicinity. A few have online tools to help. - I think everyone should buy a system that "scans" for available frequencies. Good luck!

Dan, thanks for the info. What if you travel?

The regional differences relate to what digital TV channels are active in the regions in question. I suggest;
a) having the manufacturer help you find the best choice for your own region AND b) slecting a scanning system with a large number of available frequencies. In Shure, that means at least SLX. In Sennehiser, that means at least Evolution 100.

By the way, Edd, item "b" above is suggested so that, when you travel to a region with different TV stations, you'll stand the best-possible chance of using an unoccupied frequency.
