Wow.... they should have shot her at the end of the series to preserve her forever as Ellie May. The fellow who played Jethro, Max Baer Jr., is a big wig in this area and owns casinos etc.. Last I heard he is building a resort type casino outside Carson City (Carson City not having the brains to sell him vacant property to build on) and also wanting to convert the Silver Casino in Sparks to a Beverly Hillbillies theme.

Yup, hes done very well. He's actually a smart business man, he decides what he wants and fights the county until he gets it, like the sign in front of his casino.
His dad was a pretty good fighter from what I understand. |

Apparently the son was not too pleased at his father's depiction in this movie. Understandably so...it was hardly a flattering depiction. They made him out to be a womanizer who tried to killed people in the ring and took it as a source of pride if he did. According to more reputable accounts, he was a devoted family man, and he took care of the widows and children of the fighters who died in the ring with him, financially, for the rest of their lives. |

Donna Douglas "Ellie Mae" owned (may still) the general store in a little mountain resort community about 30-40 miles East of me and I used to see her there whenever I worked in the area! Hellava nice lady and pretty easy on the eyes still a dozen years ago!

I'd say Max Baer got more than just a mention in Cinderella Man. And, he was more than just a good fighter, he was World Champion. One of the few fighters to have more than 50 knockouts.
Certainly, he never tried or wanted to kill anyone in the ring, but he did taunt and beat Primo Carnera to a pulp when he won the title. I suspect Jimmy Braddock may not have beat him if he hadn't started making movies in Hollywood and neglect his training. Scarne, by the way, was good friends with Jimmy Braddock, and did card tricks for Primo Carnera to help him relax before his fights. |

Gotta admit...I wouldn't know about her birthday but our local paper has "celebrity birthdays today" in it every day. Just thought Donna being 78 was one worth mentioning!!

She's not that important. Now Hoover Dam Or as most in the area like to call it by it's original name Boulder Dam is 75 years old this year. Now that is an achievement! The Boulder Dam not only supplies electricity to several states it Prevents many areas along the Colorado river from being flooded.
