Who was the first to manufacture a tricked out deck. Not a trick deck but a really cool looking deck of cards. I realize now that the shadow masters and the guardians and all that good stuff is seriously popular, and I was wondering who started the trend?

Cool looking is in the eye of the beholder and the eye of the marketer. Frankly, I don't find any of those "cool-looking" decks to be anything more than a marketing gimmick to snare the unsuspecting "me too" boys.
Before the shadow masters, the guardians and all that good stuff, there were card men who identified the "cool guys" by the fact that they used Tally-Ho cards. There were some cards called Po-Do that were considered very cool, because Cardini used them.

I think another popular card among magicians as well as gamblers was the Bicycle Fan Back as seen here:
http://farm1.static.flickr.com/34/108760.......jpg?v=0 perhaps also popular among crooked gamblers because of the "scallops" on the fan which were used for marking the value of cards. For gambling demonstrations like second dealing, the Bee deck was preferred because of the absence of a border. A popular and legendary brand of playing cards for card manipulation was the Steamboats. You can see a picture of the Cardini deck that Bill Palmer refers to at the top of the Cardini page at http://www.cardini.com/ I think there were actually two versions of the Cardini deck--one with a gold Pegasus and the other with a silver Pegasus. ----- Amado "Sonny" Narvaez

Marked Bee brand cards were always popular with gamblers.
