Saw this on a certain auction site. Some of the sell tactics are pretty cheezy (such as the math and memorization of a standard ID being a drag!). I have not heard of this before. Does this ring a bell with anyone?
**** Inviz-Able Deck Do you own an Invisible deck, but don't use it because you find the math and memorization to be a drag? It slows people down and makes the effect suspicious. Well, Zack has eliminated everything that makes it a challenge! Now you will be ABLE to do the Invisible... Learn Zack's completely different set-up, method, and a bonus routine that will get jaws dropping! This DVD is about 20 minutes, and comes with an Inviz-Able Deck that is ready to use! The deck also comes with “quick start” instruction for those unfamiliar with the traditional method. This means that no proir knowledge of the old method is necessary! Although, like every magic trick, practice is recommended before performing – Zack's Inviz-Able Deck is known to be performed with ZERO practice, before completion of the DVD! It NEVER FAILS! Plus you can put it down for a long time and not forget how to use it. Most can't say that about the traditional Invisible Deck! EVERY magician should perform this classic effect. It is known to be the “best card trick in the world”! Zack has been using his method for nearly 25 years, and has finally made it available to the magic community! ANY CARD IS SIMPLY THOUGHT OF THAT CARD IS THE ONLY FACE DOWN CARD IN A FACE UP DECK NO ONE IS IN THE KNOW NO ONE WILL BE IN THE KNOW VIRTUALLY NO MEMORIZATION IS USED ABSOLUTELY NO SLEIGHT OF HAND IS USED ABSOLUTELY NO MATH IS USED NO NEED TO MOVE SLOWLY - IT IS ALMOST SELF-WORKING KILLER BONUS ROUTINE INCLUDED USING A PROP AVAILABLE AT NEARLY ANY MAGIC SUPPLIER (not included) ALSO - You can request a variety of different Bicycle decks. You can get yours in new standard, "Value Pack" (so they look like they are straight from Walmart & not a trick deck) or jumbo index. NOTE: Inviz-Able Decks are made from genuine Bicycle Playing Cards, so although they are brand new - never used decks, they will not be factoy sealed, since they must be removed from the box to be prepared.

One thing that jumps out is the "VIRTUALLY NO MEMORIZATION" proviso. That means there is some memorization. I am guessing the memorization that is still needed is the setup for the kings. I used to work in a magic shop, and the owner used to do the ID by holding the cards up in front of his face and fanning them "face" out. The spec is in front and the deck is in the appropriate condition. As the cards are fanned out the performer is looking at the "back" of the fan and the thought of card can be found without any calculation of memorization. It is a piece of cake. You just adjust the fan so the spec can see the face down card, pull it out and show it. That presentation seems to fit the description.

IMO if you can't deal with adding two simple numbers then you may as well give up & try something else. Like further education classes.

Chessman,
Doug Edwards has a cool ID effect in his book Doug Edwards Packs A Wallop. It doesn't employ the usual ID set up nor does it employ the approach that DelMagic has talked about. The nice thing about Edwards' routine is that it doesn't matter which side of the deck comes out. I know it is a tricky book to find, but, it's well worth the search for that idea and for a ton of other great magic. Also, if you don't like how the ID is set up, change it around to suit you. R/S isn't picky This Ivniz-Able deck sounds like a quick buck artist ploy. Save your pennies and snag a good book instead. Namaste, Vlad |

Harry Lorayne is still selling Packs a Wallop on his website. I bought it about a month ago after reading some of the opinions here on the forum.

Yes, I don't think this book is to hard to find. It's one of those books a lot of people overlooked.

This isn't about me not liking the ID or needing help with one. Nor do I have any interest in buying one. Just curious about the effect and if anyone knew if it actually represented an improvement over the original. My guess is "no" but don't like to judge before all the facts are in (as General Buck Turgeson would say!). As Vlad said, it may be up for a quick buck. That was my initial thought.

Considering your number of posts here, I didn't think you were actually in the market for this. I assumed you were just wondering how they could word their ad in that way. I think the fanning method fits their description, but I don't doubt there could be other methods.

Anyone who cant subtract a 1 digit number from a two digit number is a ready made sucker, which rather disqualifies them from being a magician.

What Del describes is the same as what I came up with maybe 100 years ago when I worked in a magic shop.

I tried the fan method on my wife tonight. It definitely works. I think it might be a bit striongeer on stage, not sure I like it as much as the "counting off" hand to hand reveal for an individual.

Ok, so I already have an ID, but was curious about this method, so I got it...
To be fair, the video is (short) but well-made, and the method is not the fan method (at least not the one Del describes). I surely did not feel ripped off, and the quality of the dvd and the deck were just as good as anything I'd get from my local brick and mortar or online. For anyone just starting out in magic and/or considering getting an ID (yes, I know it's not for everyone, but it's still one of my personal favorite card effects) this actually is a decent alternative method. |

After experimenting with the way the cards came when I bought them, and then with the Don Alan arrangement as described in the Fields & Schwartz book, I have been using a very simple-minded arrangement that requires no math and no memorization. It would not bear close examination, but the participants get to see the face-up cards for only a few seconds.
I showed the effect today to 2 groups of people -- a small group in an office, and a group of about a dozen or so around a table in a restaurant. I use the classic presentation as shown on Trevor Duffy's little DVD, along with his dropper. Both times, I think the materialization of the deck as the participant tossed it back to me and I caught it produced more of a magical effect than did the final production. It's almost as if producing the deck out of thin air was already so magical, that the fact that the one card was turned over exactly as imagined wasn't that astonishing. I'm probably handling that part of the effect poorly. Any suggestions? Woland |
