I am looking for the Hand of Cleopatra for an effect from Christian's book. Where does one obtain such?

I did an internet search and the only references to it tend to be on magicians' wish-lists. It does not sound promising...

Merry meet...
The item you are desiring was an invention of Tony Von Lackner of Germany. Harold Voit of Zuberzentrale, Munich, Germany is the distributor and has permission from the creator to distribute it. Stevens Magic Emporium is the American distributor for this item. Try "stevensmagic.com" for inquiries. Good luck, and I hope this helps. ...and merry part. |

WR,
Steven Magic used to carry this item but apparently doesn't any longer. However, Joe Stevens or someone else at Stevens Magic could probably help you out. |

I saw two "Hand of Cleopatra"s that were auctioned on Ebay about a month or two ago. The interesting thing about this is that it was labeled as "Ken Brooke's Hand of Cleopatra" rather than Tony Von Lacker. The pictures of the effect at auction look the same as shown in Chelman's book. Could anyone clear that up?
Anyway, both auctions stated that the effect is no longer in production, and both ended up getting bought in the $350 - $370 range. To anyone that wishes to get one, good luck and bring lotsa dinero!! Dave |

I facilitated the purchase of one of these about a year ago for someone in the U.K.
It went for around $200 US before shipping & insurance. With the reprint of Christan's book, I think you'd be lucky to find this for under $300 these days (unless one of those collector types let one go at a local magic club auction). Dave |

I have been playing around with this, as I have been unable to locate said device. I do not know if this will help any of you, but for a small fee at your local Radio supply house, you can pick up a small slient radio controlled motor, I like the ones used in the mini RC cars.
http://ucables.com/ref/MINIRC-CAR I leave the details on the how's and What for's to you. |

I've been hunting for this effect for a few years now--with no success. As soon as I read your post, I ordered one. Take care, Craig Wilson |

HI,
Seance. Yes, Ken Brooke used to sell this in the UK. It may still be available from House Of Secrets in Blackpool. YOu will need to speak to Bill Thopmson (he is one of the nicest people you will meet in life, never mind magic). Off the top of my head the address was (if I remember correctly) 12 Caunce Street, Blackpool, UK. Best, Bri |

I preferred a different look for the Hand of Cleopatra than is available commercially. I built mine, incorporating some of the mechanism into the miniature table (about 5 inches high) that holds it.
Mine has a rather tiny, delicate-looking lady's hand, rather than the slightly fat-looking hand used in some of the commercial versions.

It's a kind of utility device really I guess. It is a small carved hand (looks carved anyway) made of resin which sits atop a plinth and ends up pointing to a chosen object or WHY
