I love stopping watches. (First, stop your pulse, then stop their watch.) The reaction is always heart-warming. But here's a thought: I was recently being filmed for something and the watch stop was good, but not really visual enough on camera. In a moment of panic, I asked one of the researchers to nip out to a shop on the corner and buy a battery-operated wall clock, you know the sort of thing. All fingers showing, and with the back of the clock gaffa taped so that I couldn’t get at the workings, I still managed to make it stop. Visually, this is very powerful (Not good, if you’ve got a lot of chest hair, if you catch my drift!)… enough for the cameraman to come out with a string of expletives as the clock hand froze. Anybody else tried this?

I've never tried this...
But now I'm tempted to give it a whirl! BTW, if you wore a tie, it might have saved your chest hair.

Drew and Philemon,
I've seen a number of "stop the watch" effects on the market. Do either of you, or anyone for that matter, recommend a particular commercial version(s)? Thanks. Peter |

There is a very interesting commercial version named... hmmm... I forgot, but it's named after the specific watch brand used. It's a digital watch that from what I understand is/was very popular because it looks (IMO looked) very trendy with big red digital digits showing on the display.
I think the watch actually is *ungimmicked* but due to it's construciotn you can set the time of it remotely to any time you want (via a little gimmick). It's pretty expensive, mainly because the watch itself is pretty expensive. /Matias |

I am beginning to wonder if you guy's know of a basic concept that will allow anyone to stop a watch or clock very easily. I don't want to give away too much here but this is a really basic item that you can get anywhere, and the gimmick I use is so small it can fit under a wedding ring.

Leoni and I have been discussing something else. Try this... how can you stop a battery operated wall clock while it's held at arms length? (And, no, the back of the clock has gaffa tape on it so that you can't fiddle with the workings or the battery!) The wall clock is held at arms length. You concentrate.. it stops.
Think about it, and you'll get it. Just remember that I came up with it first... now christened The Fantastic Unbelievable Superb Drew McAdam Clock Stopping Feat! |

Well Drew a third hand or a 6th finger could be handy this way if you get what I have in mind...preferabely in un-surrounded situations

A local performer has 'created' a watch stopping effect that employs a sixth finger. The benefit is that the holding of the watch is very natural.

I'd think that either a finger tip or (even better, IMHO) Nick Night's "Enigma" is a better choice than a sixth...

Yep -I use a TT. Thing is, you can use whatever method you want, because you never work it when surrounded. If people are at your side, or behind you... how are they gonna' see the face of the clock?!

Urk!
You're right, Andy. He uses a fingertip, not a sixth finger. My bad...
