I was just trying my first simple trick, one from the turn of the century where you balance a coin on top of a playing card on one finger and flick the card away, leaving the coin.
I have to say I was delighted when it worked perfectly the first time out. I figured I'd practice it a few more times and then share it with my wife, only to find I couldn't for the life of me do it again! Ha. I'm sure with more tries and practice I'll get it down, and can't wait to feel the thrill of the successful trick again. |

It's "different" when there's another person(s) watching you, and (in my experience) worse yet when they're related to you. The old scripture about not being without honor except in your own land can bite you from several directions.
Keep at it, and have fun with it. I very rarely fool my wife (she's very sharp, and she knows me too well!) but when I do, it feels great!
...what if I could read your mind?

Thanks all! I'm a step closer to perfection with this little coin-flicking trick now, having learned what I guess is a common theme in magic--sometimes a soft but swift move is best.
