I'm putting together a short gambling routine, opening with Darwin Ortiz' great one-handed poker demonstration, and would love to close with Guastaferro's fantastic 'double monte'. Guastaferro's club sandwich is of course a great lead in to the effect, as it introduces two selections and two jokers, however I am looking for a gambling-based routine which might achieve the same effect. Maybe a blackjack demo? (The two selections could perhaps be substituted for a blackjack hand?).
Any and all suggestions welcome! Ben |

Perhaps I wasn't clear in my opening post, but I was specifically after a gambling-based routine which would ring in two jokers and two other cards, thereby allowing me to segue into double monte.
Sorry for the confusion. Any help much appreciated! |

Carl Andrews has a Blackjack card trick. This is the effect. A spectator selects a card and the magician talks about cheating at Blackjack. The card is lost in the deck. Let's assume it is the Six of Hearts. The cards are shuffled and the magician says that the top two cards will help him find the selection. He turns over the top card to reveal the Jack of Spades. He deals this face up to the table. He turns the next card face up as well. It is the Six of Hearts (the spectator's selection). The magician deals this card face down underneath the Jack not realizing that this is the selection.
The audience, of course, believes that the magician has screwed up. The values of the two cards are added (Jack = 10 and Six = 6). The magician counts down 16 cards to find... the Six of Hearts that was just seen on the table. The face down card is flipped face up. It's the Ace of Hearts, which makes for a perfect Blackjack on the table. The effect is difficult to describe in print but is clear to the audience. I'm not sure if it suits your needs specifically, Ben. But you may want to check it out. It's published in his Magic In Maui book as well as one of his DVDs. Caleb

Sorry, Ben, then the items I mentioned are not for you. Unless of course you do my Monte Monte Plus (out of Apocalypse) and then you don't have to "ring in" anything! Meaning you can actually do 'em all with a borrowed deck. HL.
