Since the Café search function is not only not working but has been completely removed from the site, I wondering if there were any tips for searching Google. I seem to be getting way too many results that are meaningless. Should I repeat certain key words?
Sorry if this question has already been asked. I was going to do a search, but...

As an example, say you were searching for "Ken Northridge." You would enter this into Google:
"ken northridge" site:themagiccafe.com
Michael J.

Yeah if I'm doing a bunch of searches I type the site:themagiccafe.com first so changing the end is easier and I can do without the quotation marks
site:themagiccafe.com tommy pad would be my search (just does without the " " and you can change it faster) same goes for any site or forum, as long as the full main address goes in it

The search I would do more than any was: Search for all new posts in the last 24 hours. I was able to see what the newest hot topics were being talked about. I don't think there is anyway to do that one with Google. I find I come to the Café much less now than I used to.

Is this removal of the search function temporary or permanent???
If it's permanent, I'll be here a LOT less. (Moderators, I hope you're reading this.) |

Using google as a replacement for the Café's search engine actually is better. You can do one search after another, without the very annoying "Sorry you can't do another search so soon blah blah" I was annoyed at first by the removal of the search function but now I don't really notice it is gone.

Although, it does still come up, in a round about way, if you click on "View this user's posts in last 30 days," which is how I usually find topics I'm discussing when I forget where they are, and then try again relatively shortly after, or accidently double click on it, the "5 minute" thing becomes an issue. It doesn't poop up with the message however, probably due to the removal of the regular search itself, it just takes you right to the main Café page. Was rather confusing the first time, as I had just searched my own posts, and then it was like the link was broken juts a minute later, lol.

I have done the same thing gdw. but haven't had the issue that you have run into. Now before sure all the time when searching members posts. Haven't had that happen now. Doesn't mean I won't but so far have just been lucky I guess.

Ok, am I really going crazy? (More so RS1963)
I swear I posted more in here. And I was saying the same thing as others here, so I'm not sure what happened.

Nah gdw I don't think you are. I perhaps am. I guess when I had used the post search option I had given enough time so I wasn't taken back to the main Café page.
As for posts being deleted? Well we know how that goes here without saying too much more. |

Most of the time if my post never shows up, it's because I navigated away from the message without submitting. Maybe you're less scatterbrained than I am, but I'm pretty sure it's my number one cause of "no message". Of course, I never say anything controversial

Google's search is a thousand time more sophisticated that the Café's is/was anyhow, and with no time restriction between searches. No big loss...

But I don't think Google can search the secret sessions, etc.

Try this: Thanks! I was hoping some google experts might have an answer. It's close but still not nearly as nice. At least how I did it, (I think I followed your directions), it seems to provide links to the latest searches organized by section. You don't really know which section until you click on each link. I would prefer it to just give all the latest posts on the entire Café. (Even if not updated immediately.) This way you spot new posts on new effects, items for sale, hot topics, etc. Anyway to narrow it down that way? Thanks again, Mike |
