You're right, everyone's point isn't valid. Let me rephrase, everyone is entitled to their opinion, regardless whether you share in it.
Perception my friend. I guess we'll agree to disagree. If someone walked into your restaurant and wanted to show you their awesome 21 card trick, do you not perform anymore for fear of showing them up?

No, but I don't take the cards from him and finish the trick while dazzling onlookers with Buck Brothers flourishes throughout.
I pretend the 21 card trick is the most amazing thing I've ever seen and compliment the person on his abilities. But, of course, that is NOT what was presented as the situation. If you want to comment on a scenario of your own invention, please carry on. |

There is no need to fight argue amongst each other over this. I look back at the situation and I definitely could have done some things different. But there are also things that I wouldn't change. A couple of things to consider that you may have not read correctly or I may not have posted properly. 1. This was my PAID night for performing. 2. After I did the "challenge" I proceeded to try and show/teach/be-friend the patron by means of a similar interest. He was the one who was pushing for me to show him more stuff in the bar so I did. Also, I forgot to mention that I was instructed by my boss, the manager, to proceed in "upstaging" a "repeat pain in the ass customer" on my paid night to perform.
There have been some very valid points and perspective presented by a wide array of magicians. It really helps to make me a better performer to know when to cool it and walk away just like in real life. And sometimes it takes others pointing these aspects out to make us better. Unfortunately that didn't happen this night but it hasn't even been an issue at my establishment since then. I am a very friendly person and approachable and things just got a little carried away/out of hand this night. You come to my bar, tell me you're a magician and we will 99.98% of the time hit it off, have fun and just make the best out of the situation. I have even incorporated other magicians into a routine or an act as an impromptu stooge. Just to chime in on an old thread that was revived... Cheers, Justin

Now that's a great post Justin! We are all on a journey and don't know the outcome of any segment until we look back at it.

Here's the pro tip of the day. You don't go into someone else's gig and perform without permission. End of story. If you do so unwittingly, apologize and make friends. If the pro worker bruises your itty bitty ego with his chops, man up and get over it.
The wannabe reacted like a !@#$%^& and continued down that path. I, too, would have had fun with the jerk when he started with the attitude. If he became too much of a pain, obnoxious or whatever...out the door with mgmt. blessing. That's the way I learned from an old time chicago bar pro and that's the way I work and have worked for more years than I can remember. |

Got to add one more comment.
Justin, ignore anyone that puts you down for how you handled the situation. You showed a lot more patience than most would. Good Job. |
