Did you discover the secret wind-up key in the back? It comes with 3 additional secret routines.

Best answer, Frank.
My "Rocky" has a mind of its own, loves to people-watch and imitates passers-by. He's not good at card tricks but can balance a ping pong ball on his nose if he's forced to. He doesn't know who Greg Louganis was, he hates cats with a passion, and he pees a lot on his lota vase.

I have been using Rocky since 1985, when I worked at the Magic Master shop in Atlanta. Most of the old tired lines you hear originated from the sales script that was used there (and perhaps still is used). When I began using Rocky in my shows, I wanted to avoid those old lines. Since then I've come up with many many ideas and routines. Check out my YouTube channel for the main routine I use.

Topical jokes are great..
An example of one that worked a few years ago..Sanjaya from American Idol. Doesn't of course work now. Look around your audience and see if anyone matches his hair color. You might rename him/her something besides...Rocky... Instead of doing the "no live animals bit", have him joke on his hamburger ...then and then and then

That's true, Harris. It would be a shame to drop some of the classic old visual gags you can do with the Raccoon (such as dancing, blowing him up etc) but that doesn't mean you have to say exactly the same lines with them.
I have 2 routines for Norman one for the kids one for the grown ups, but they have a fair bit of cross-over! |

I was thinking of changing lines. maybe doing a few other bits but changing the lines to something more current. how many kids know who brooke shields is ?

For those that it applies and think they have the audience to use it...reference to hair on your back.
Usually gets a groan from my audiences...and then I can use a topper.... A few months ago, I got a red fox (insert your own jokes here about Sanford and Sons) and at first I thought he was an elephant. He was oriented so his tail and legs looked like an elephant's trunk and tusk. After he chokes (not jokes as in my above post) ..he appears to die...I do a heart felt eulogy after playing taps on my harmonica...then I think about the CPR class I took... Of course I have turned him around and am giving mouth to mouth to his "trunk end"..My face tells it all and the kids start laughing... I re orient him and give him mouth to mouth in the correct place... My thinking I had found a elephant puppet is true..which makes the above bit play even better. Harris

I use Rocky all the time in my shows. Just be yourself. It's okay to watch other routines but be yourself.
Relate to Rocky like he is real. People talkl to their pets. What would you really say to Rocky if he were real? Try not to copy word for word what others are doing. Most of all, have fun with him and so will your audience. |
