I am doing a speech and want to do a magic trick for the intro but I only have 5 minutes to do a speech which can be the length of a full magic trick. so I was wondering if anybody knew any illusions that could be done within seconds rather than minutes that still is still really amazing.

Hi addiboy

What is your speech about?

Who is the audience?

I am assuming that you mean "tricks" not "illusions", right?

My speech is on magic tricks, and my audience is college students in my class. I want to start with a small fast one and end with a cool one. and yeah I guess I meant tricks. I kinda use the term interchangeably.

maybe it would also be cool to do a prediction trick. like have them pick a card and then reveal I knew what card they picked at the end, but the only problem is I don't know any tricks like that.

Ya I have been doing tricks for a long time. I used to do street magic at the mall but I havent really practiced in a while. I'm a big fan of the tricks on ellusionist, I own kaos, indecent, monster box, the m5 system, and electric touch. I aslo own a random assortment of my dad's old school tricks like cup and balls and linking rings and stuff like that, and I know a few pretty cool card tricks. oh and also ufo floating card trick.

5 minutes isn't much time for a speech, and a trick. My advice would be to close with a trick not open with one. If you open with a trick the audience will be focused on the effect and not the speech. If you are talking about magic then they will hang on to every word with the anticipation of some sort of effect in the end. A visually powerful effect is the Jardonnet Wallet. It's a flaming card to wallet with peek feature. The flaming wallet part in itself is pretty powerful. I would recommend at the very end thank the audience for listening, reach into your back pocket pull out the wallet without opening it and set it on the table or podium in front of you. Then calmly and purposefully fold your lecture notes small enough to fit into your wallet and as you open the wallet it lights on fire. That's visual, powerful, and quick. You may be also to switch out your lecture notes with a sheet of Flash Paper. Make it look like your speech vaporized.

Just a thought,
- Jason

I decided to start with the amazing color changing rope and then end the speech with kaos, surgical card through glass.

Why have two different sections. If your speech is about magic tricks, why not do the effects while you are speaking. That way you get your point across and perform a few effects at the same time.

The best item for a speech is Billy McComb's Hole Collection. Get it at Magic Inc. or Abbott's Magic.

My vote's in for a bill change. Takes 30 seconds, visual, and inherently meaningful.

Let me get this streight. You are going to do a quick trick, a short speech, then finish with another quick trick, all in five minutes, and the tricks that you select must play for a room full of people.

My advise is do one trick that requires no explination, and make your speech while you are performing that trick. If you try to do too much it might just be confusing.

I would do the mis made dollar?
