I go in 1 week from today for a full right hip replacement.
Has anyone else here had the procedure done? Thanks, Mike |

I knew people who had it done including my niecephew and my step motherish person. They were thrilled with the results, said they all would have done it earlier if they could because the pain was gone. One guy I knew was in horrific pain and said he felt born again with the new hip. Marty Nash had his replaced but damaged it in an accident and they wouldn't re-do it but other than that it seems like a good deal. Now go get' em!
My niecephew did say that he did regret going on line and watching a video of one being replaced. He said that was worse than the surgery. |

My dad had it done as an emergency procedure at Mayo Clinic - St. Mary's Hospital.
Now THAT'S the place to get it done...

My last ex mother-in-law had both of 'em replaced about 18 years ago.
She's well into her 90's now and still gets around just fine. Best of luck to you.

Good luck. Recovery from orthopedic surgery can be a bit painful and protracted, but they give you good drugs
ANd things are MUCH better now then they were 20 years ago when my wife had major knee surgery.

It doesn't have to be so traumatic. My father walked out of the hospital 3 days after hip replacement, and that is the case over 90% of the time for the surgeon and procedure he used.
I wish you a speedy recovery, Mike. |

Yeah, the one guy I know who was so happy was up and around after a few days and pain free.

I hear nothing but great things about hip replacement surgery these days! I thought I needed it but refused to even get an xray until I past 50 (fine line between macho and stupid). I finally had the films shot a few months ago (53) and it turns out my problem is bone spurs and arthritis and can be cleaned up and a short recovery!
Good luck amigo! |

Dear Michael,
My aunt had it done just after her 90th birthday and she recovered fine (following the instructions), she got 19 good years off that hip. If she could take it, I'm sure you'll do fine. You should get more good years off your new hip. Good Luck and speedy recovery. It'll be a good chance to practice your "new, hip" material. - Mary Mowder |

Good luck. You look young, so I'm guessing this'll be a breeze. And you'll notice immediate life improvement.

Mary, she lived to 109? Good for her! I had an uncle and aunt who both made 105.

I'm in constant pain and they can't do anything about it.
Now go and don't break a leg! |

My grandmother had one several years ago and she is perfectly fine. I've been fortunate enough to be in the OR during several of them [as a medical student] and it's probably the goriest thing next to a slasher film. It amazes me how much tidier things look after the surgery.

Don't say that!
Mike, what ever you do do NOT speak to my niecephew or he'll tell you alllll about the surgery. Just go, get knocked out, and don't worry about how they do it. In this case it is the destination not the journey! |

My mom had it done and after a short recovery period was good as new. She too loved it! It lasted 8 years and then she had it redone and with newer techniques her recovery time was only a few days.
The only drawback is she travels a lot. Her hips always caused the machine thingie at the airport to beep. She was always embarressed she had to go into a back room and searched. Now with the new machines at airports - don't think that would happen as they would be able to see it plainly. Good luck with your surgery. C |
