Just an FYI - I am blogging again - although the blog I am writing is for the lay audience - I thought I would post a link here - because some might enjoy reading it - or not.
Again it is for the lay audience so I leave out a lot of technical info - like using the punch for my punch deal work. http://glennbishthemagishbishop.blogspot.com/ Enjoy. Cheers!

Gee Glenn, it seems like it's written for magicians. Why would laymen be interested in this:

For the triumph shuffle and this demonstration it takes only six shuffles to get and stack the hand - two shuffles for each card. Or this, where it looks like you're slamming magicians: Quote:
I have been told by many magicians that - it just doesn’t work. This is something that I have heard often over the years. Mostly by magicians that have never done a hypnotic show and really don't know that much about hypnotism. If you're going to write a blog for laymen, then give them something interesting to read, something that is important to you. You claim to have a lot of experience as a performer, so you should be writing about the best way to hire a performer. Write about the top 10 mistakes party planners make. You know, the kind of useful information laymen would find useful. |

Here is the reason why I would never write "about the top 10 mistakes party planners make." I work for agents, party planners, and bookers at times. I don't like to tell other people and some of them I work for - how to do their job. I don't consider that good for business.

Glenn,
It was only a suggestion. Obviously you are using your site for promotional purposes and a blog is a great way to add value to your site. However your blog is written for magicians because the subject matter your covering would have no interest to laymen. It's been my experience, especially working company events, that the person in charge of planning the event has little experience (if any at all) in planning the event. Many times they are someone from human resources or an assistant to someone in the company. That is who I meant by the party planner, not the professional party planner you're referring to. You can certainly rephrase the term. My suggestion implies that your blog be pertinent to their needs (if writing for laymen is something you really are trying to do). Again, in my experience when I work directly with a company or association (which is 100% of my work as I never work with agents), is I find I know more about planning the event then they do. I've been to more events then they have and have seen the mistakes made. My guess is that you are in a similar situation with similar experience. So by providing valuable information that they would actually benefit from, would ultimately benefit you as you would be giving a potential client value that other entertainers in your area aren't. |

No not really - it is sort of an after hour's place for me to talk about what I am interested in talking about - at the moment. If it were for promotions to sell DVD products or books - I would sure promote and talk about them a lot more.
However I have nothing I am interested in promoting to magicians at this time and I do not think that my next DVD or book will be advertised in a way that a magician on the web could order it. If my techniques and past projects are mentioned - it is an afterthought in reguards to past history - to the story or past master magician I once knew. Not to promote or to sell any product. The blog is really about my life - as I grew up in the crazy magic world that I grew up in - and how I learned - what I learned - when I learned it - sometimes why I learned it - or why I worked something out etc. What one of my past masters said to me about a move or an idea. Stuff like that. Cheers!

My ONLY point was that it's really a blog that magicians would be interested in reading. A lay audience, in my mind, is one who would never be made aware of the names of sleights and effects names. Writing a blog for magicians doesn't necessarily have anything to do with promoting products. If you were writing a blog aimed at lay audiences, meaning someone with no magic knowledge, someone who may consider hiring you or who has seen you perform previously, then the suggested I posted earlier would be more appropriate. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with your blog, just that it's obvious by its contents, a lay audience wouldn't be interested in it. |

It is for the lay audience - some magicians might like it or not - but it is for the lay audience - it is not a promotion blog for clients - or clients that might be thinking of hiring me.
It is an after hour's blog where I write about whatever I want to. Cheers!

Glenn, you are giving the lay audience an look into the methods. Why in the world would you want to do that.
If it's for a lay audience then leave out the technical details. PLEASE

Ed,
He doesn't agree because he really knows it's a blog for magicians. There's nothing different about this blog than his previous four or five blogs. He writes 'em, he takes 'em down and he writes 'em again. (just my opinion!) Cheers! |

How could a post like this possibly mean anything to a layman?!
"I have never seen anyone be able to cold - stack/cull four aces for a five handed game of draw poker on the fly using any kind of riffle shuffle technique on the web. Or cull/stack twelve cards - three hands of four of a kind using any kind of riffle shuffle technique on the web or on a DVD for that matter. Except at my web site and on my own DVD's. If there is any other footage out there that can do this - I would like to see it. Best ahead!" |

Say's you....
However I am going to document the stories, events, books I have written, video and DVD's that I have produced - and just about EVERYTHING that has gone on or goes on in my life in magic and show business. That includes my block transfer work, punch work and other things that I have discovered and used in my show. Just my opinion - I hope this helps - Glenn Bishop is not blackeagle Cheers!

I enjoyed reading through some of your posts, Glenn!
I too must say that it seems definitely geared toward magicians - there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with that. Better yet, why label it at all? A blog is a blog. If you refrain from exposure, it can be enjoyed by anyone who comes across it - magicians OR laymen.

Great, easy to publicize it if it's just for you.
Doesn't even need to be online does it? Keep it as a Word document on your own PC. |

Why does it matter if he labeled his blog for the lay audience OR magicians? The beauty of blogging, especially personal blogs, is that it's HIS blog. If he said his blog is geared for extraterrestrial aliens from Mars, I don't think it's worth debate. His blog, his content, his label. I hope he's enjoying these silly posts (& possible baggage) promoting his blog- I would...
All the Best, Andrew |
