This was asked on another forum. Has anyone heard of it?
"What I am looking for is the text that Houdini used to present to competitors who would challenge him to an escape contest for which, I believe he offered a reward of either $1,000 or $10,000 if the challenger won. There were of course, elaborate conditions to be followed, but the one thing that guaranteed him success was that the challenger was required to allow Houdini himself to sew shut his eyes and mouth!"

Reminds me of the scene in Master and Commander where the little lad is talking to someone about being killed in battle at sea. The body is (well was) sewn in to a bag (I think the hammock that they slept in) and then dropped in the sea. They would start at the feet and sew towards the head – the last stitch going through the lip – just to make sure you were dead before they threw you over.
Got to wonder how many times they saw struggling sacks of nearly dead sailors sinking before someone came up with the idea of the last stitch thorough the lip. |

Wow houdini was a master of so many arts.... he has inspired many...I love performing the straight jacket escape and giving a nice story behind houdini before performing
