I don't want to use any ring of my sets of Linking Rings for rope work so I look for others sources.
Here's a couple of everyday sources for 7 inch and similar rings.
For a chrome ring, try in the house/home equipment section of a shop/warehouse for a towel ring as used in to hang up towels in the bathroom. Its basically a chome ring with a break in it, with the ends set into a holder for fastening to the wall. Pull the ends of the ring out of the holder which screws onto the wall. This gives a ring with a seen break. So 90 degrees away from the break use your palms on both sides to bend, by pressing, the sides in until the ends of the break push tightly against each other. If the rope being used is considerably thicker, it should be pretty obvious to the spectator that the ring wouldn't part to let the rope get on/off the ring. If you want the ends to be glued shut use the appropriate glue to do the job.
Another source, for a larger ring, is a [non-chrome] chatter ring used by children for a game. The 4 or 5 washers on it would have to be removed, maybe requiring cutting the ring.
The presentation makes the magic.

Here's a link to the glue that was used to do the joining of the gap:

Here's a source for plastic rings, available in the color of your choice: http://www.kingskountry.com/7-round-plastic-ring.html

I prefer the 5" plastic rings. They also have rings made of other materials, in a variety of sizes.
