I left work last night with my kit debating weather or not to work a couple of hats before heading home and who do I see working a pitch?
Sonny Holiday. I stopped, watched, and hit his hat when he was done. It was early and he was still mailing it in, but even so, great. I introduced myself and we spoke briefly, he then launched into another show and this time he was red hot. Just great, great, stuff. Dan- "MT is one of the reasons we started this board! He also is featured on Jim Cellini's new How to do street magic video.
I truly enjoyed seeing his unique style and effective presentations. Where are you located Dan? I am up in Northern Ohio so the weather is just now breaking well enough to hit the streets but I am getting set to go this weekend. After watching the Cellini Video - Man I am stoked to go! BroDavid

I'm in Cambridge, MA. I am lucky enough to work my day job as a computer propeller head right in Harvard Square.
I work the breakfast and early lunch crowd (6:30am and 11:00am) Some guitiar guy grabs the good pitch at noon on most days so I don't work much after work. I've been out believe it or not, off and on since Feb. We've had some unseasonably warm weather this year. I also work the Subways somedays on the way home from work. This is where you meet the REALLY interesting people. Just the other day a homeless man informed me that he has not been out in daylight since 1997 because sunlight can put you into a "Melon Coma". he also asked me if I had any tinfoil to line his hat so the government wouldn't be able to read his mind. He tipped me eleven cents (after he hit me up for a dollar), I felt honored. Best, Dan- "MT is one of the reasons we started this board! Hmm, we have had warm weather too, so maybe I am just putting it off...
Actually I work in a suburb where nobody gets there before work, or stays after, or gathers for lunch. So I don't get that daily opportunity. I love the Melon Coma line about the sunshine!!!! And I surely hope you didn't give up tin-foil to him. Man you need that stuff to protect yourself But 11 cents is truly high praise from a homeless man! Nice Job! BroDavid

I heard Sonny Holliday's got an instructional video out called "the holliday magic show" he showed me the box got a picture of him on the front. any body heard any thing bout it?
the other thing is I saw Sonny last summer and now he does his show no table no cups and balls. another thing his chops are way better in real life or something cuz he was pullin off impossible stuff when I saw him. in the video it was good some times great but the show hes doin now is considerably different and certainly dextarious. example; fakini billard balls in a sidewalk show sourounded. he's friggin amazing he walks off the sidewalk into traffic and stops cars and entertains them causing a commotion back on the sidewalk then as soon as he's congested it to the limit he pulls the crowd into an alley and proceeds to anialate them with slieght after slieght never givin em a chance to think then he hats em bamm! @ 8 mins |

When we lived in Boston, I used to see Sonny Holiday working regularly. The first time I saw him he was working on the T, doing short pitches between trains arriving. He did a quick cups and balls that fooled me badly.
I have six locks on my door all in a row. When I go out, I only lock every other one. I figure no matter how long somebody stands there picking the locks, they are always locking three. Elayne Boosler

And Jimmy got it right, it's "Holliday" like the gunslinger, not "Holiday" like the vacation.

Sonny Holliday is one of the finest gentlemen it has ever been my pleasure to split a pitch with. My wife still referrers to him as the gentleman magician. The man has more chops than a Texas bar-b-q and when he has an audience that appreciates what he is doing you will never see finer magic performed anywhere, by anybody. Sonny's the man. If he puts out a DVD I'll be the first in line just to see him stop a crowd with nothing but his presence. Nobody, and I mean nobody, could stop the punters dead in their tracks like Sonny and all he had to do was stand there. When you look at Sonny on the street you know you are looking at the real deal. Gene,
No DVD right now, Sonny didn't have any. Someone must've fed Jimmy a line, or he doesn't know #@&*!. One or the other. On a brighter note, I'd sure like to interview Sonny on tape, so if anyone knows of someone with a fat bank account who wants to back a couple of street guys on a sure-thing, lemme know. The stories alone will be more than worth it; satisfaction guaranteed or not. For that matter, if you happen to know of anyone with a fat bank account, lemme know. Reasons aside, I'd like to introduce myself. Gene, if you happen to have a fat bank account, send me some, and we'll talk more. Yours in Magic |

I thought Hank Lee had it. I dunno, I saw the cover. Oh well, I guess the secrets out - I don't just play a little stupid in my show.
Anyway, Eric and Sonny would know better than me, that's for sure. Sorry, I wasn't trying to mislead any one. I save it up for the show. By the by, great pic, Danny. And Eric, I put a run down of the L.A. pitches I know so far on performers.net and Danny's site. Because I was just there, and Tom Frank is there on the promenade with his student, Black Magic. They're both amazing, Doug was right. And, by the way, fellas, Doug Conn is back in New Orleans, and he's doing street magic now, and so is Warpo. There's some great pics of Sonny on Google Images if you do a good search. |

Jimmy,
Great meeting you last week. I'm glad we got to spend some time together at the Promenade. Amazing how things can go from great to tough in a day. All in a day's work, I guess. Eric? Jimmy said something about you and Sonny coming into town for a bit. It would be a real pleasure meeting you, and seeing Sonny again after all these years. Peace. There is a nice pic of Jimmy on my blog. Click the link below, and scroll back a week or so. |
