Hi, I am looking for story ideas with the rice, orange and checkers. I don't remember ever seeing anyone do this effect. I have done it with the standard "mystical chinese tubes" line but would like some thing different. Anyone else do this one?
Thanks. Posted: Apr 20, 2002 12:39pm Am I the only one that owns one of these? |

In one of his lectures, Max Howard, talking baout creting magic in an effect, takes you through his creative process using this effect, and comes up with an extremely effective, and moving story. But it has to be his lecture, because it's not on his video, effective presentations.
For that matter, ANY time you get a chance to see Max Howard lecture- GO

The rice , orange and checkers is the kind of effect that I remember Mark Wilson doing on the Magic Land of Allakazam. I just recently bought an Owen model of the effect for only 90.00 dollars, the Owen price for the smaller model is $875.00 American, so I think I did well . I recovered the Chinese designs on the tube with expensive shiny contact paper so that it looks like an up-to date effect. And then I asked myself the question, "Will this just be another effect that looks really pretty on my shelf or will I actually incorporate it into my act? I too haven't come up with a unusual twist or story to use as yet. Perhaps changing the orange to a lime or apple and the rice to white sugar would make the effect appear different.Could the checkers represent pills. You think your life will become a bowl of cherries, sweeter
the sugar, but instead when you take pills it turns into a sour old lime or lemon. Perhaps you could make the checkers, the pills be transformed into yellow and red confetti at the conclusion of the effect. I will follow this thread carefully to see if any good ideas are forthcoming. Darryl the Wizard
