I am somewhat new to magic or at least returning. I tryed my hand at it when I was younger and am now trying to get back into it. I am looking for a good quality change bag. I would like a zippered 3 compartment change bag. Can anyone give me any advice on where to get one? I do not have a local magic store close to where I live where I could go try some out. And there are so many online that I do not know where to begin. I have heard that you have to be careful, especially with the zippered bags that it is qood quality or the zipper will get stuck. If anyone has any info, it would be greatly appreciated.

The "change bag" can sell for $15 and up. The best one's do not look like a bag on a stick. I've had kids say, I got one of them.
The best one I have is the Jozo Bozo Hat. It looks like a soft top hat and the load is so large, I can produce two dwarf rabbits. And vanish a lot of other stuff. If you can find one, it will cost more than $100. I have a Christmas Stocking looking one I made from the dollar store. These and others do NOT have the zipper. I have a three compartment middle zipper one I use for a variety of effects with Silks, flags, and vanishes. These can be purchased at any of the major dealers listed on the dealers ads. Just email them and ask them.

I have Viking's stock item; sells for around $49, with zipper, three loads. I'm happy with it.
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |

Thanks for the suggestions.
Dennis, I like the idea of something that doesn't look like a change bag. For now I may go ahead and get one, since I do not have one yet. At least to start with. Funsway, I checked magicnook.com (is that where you meant?) website, but I did not see the section you were talking about on making your own. Bob1Dog, where would I find this Vicking's stock? Again thanks for the quick responses. I have just begun to use this website and am loving it already. I hope to get a lot of good info from here so that I can begin putting together a show and performing. I have been asked by my wife to come and put on a short show for the kids in her classroom that she teaches for their christmas party. This is a special needs class, ages k-3. So they will enjoy just about anything. So far I would like to use a change bag for some vanishes and appearing I would like to appear the Color Changing Streamer Silk by Gosh for a visual trick And also use the magic coloring book. The bunny sponges is another I would like to use. Other than these I am not sure yet, like I said it needs to be pretty short or I will lose their attention. |

When I use a change bag, I say "and here I have a very suspicious looking bag" (as I show it empty).

Funsway was talking about the Dollar Store Section that has the "Tote Bag Change Bag" article in it on my site (The Magic Nook). Click on the Dollar Store Button and then scroll down to the Tote Bag Change Bag article. E-mail me or PM me if you have questions.

I have Creative Magic's change cap. Looks like an ordinary baseball cap but functions like a change bag. The load spaces aren't huge but depending on what you use in it, it can be a very unassuming prop.

PCoreyB, I've read that the baseball cap doesn't work like a regular change bag and can take some getting used to, and the small load spaces are limiting. I think danster08 is looking for a quality run of the mill change bag to get back into the swing of things. It worked for me and it'll probably work for him too.
Thanks Chris for directing Danster08 to Viking's site....they're known for quality stuff and while the change bag isn't theirs, it's one of George's picks and if he's happy with it than so am I....I have one and like it for what I use it for.

My "most used" approach is using two identical looking cloth bags (maybe 8X10"), one split into two compartments. I start with the plain bag full of stuff that I have a spectator dump out, which also casually shows the bag to be innocent. Then I swap in the ChangeBag -- use it for some effect -- then later switch it back for the simple bag that a spectator uses for another effect or just to help clean up. Thus, the bag is not a prop -- just a bag I have lying around that serves a temporary purpose. Most frequently I use a "Changebasket" to change the changebag, but as the bag has been shown to be "normal" it is easy to just set it aside behind some other prop for the switch.
You can sew these yourself -- a stripped pair of pajamas from a thrift store is perfect -- cut off the legs and ...

Thanks to everyone for the great advice. I found one on ebay that I believe is the same as the one on the viking website. Can't wait to get it and try it out.

Honestly, if you want to fool a kid these days, get the "Tote-bag" style (no wooden handle) or the Simplex (from George at Viking) kind. There are lots of magic sets that come with one of these.

OK, the order fell through. I had ordered it from magictrickstore.com on ebay and 2 days after the order went through, I recieved a message from the seller that the item was out of stock. So I am now looking for another one. I may end up purchasing the one from vikingmagic.com, but it costs much more. Has anyone shopped at mjmmagic.com? I found a similar one on their site.
