I hope I don't ramble on forever with this...
I consider myself an average college stuent... but one with a passion for magic. My university has a "game room" where there are seven billards tables, great for not having to bring a close up mat to practice when just hanging out. Today there was a nice summer camp of kids in the area and just happened to notice I had a ribbon spread on the table. What felt like a hoard of them ran up to me asking "Can you do magic?!?"... Heh heh heh.... I was being asked to perform while I was in the middle of my practice for my incomplete routine... only one word came to mind, "!#%@#%!". I started with two of them and did Jumping Gemini (handling ala Greg Wilson). My only 'mistake' was milking the first card for too much and not jumping into the flustration count, usually I have this timed just so that they ask "Can you turn the cards over?" as I do it...two steps behind in my case, but it still worked out. Next up, I fumbled a riffle force, flame me....PLEASE!!! I can't belive I have done hundreds of these and fumble one ....gah! CMH up at bat. Like always, this was a killer. I did CMH, Master Link (Chan Sanborn), Harlan's Linking Bands, CMH again (and with my luck one band SNAPPED on me when I was pulling towards me! bah! What can you do?) because more kids saw it from a distance and refused to accept it... By the end of the performance, I had them *BELIEVING* that rubber bands have a soft spot that can only be found when you break them (Thanks Dan Harlan!) I had NFW sitting in my front pocket, but I had only practiced it once today so I could not perform it, I'm not going to lose such a powerful trick to mis-sleights. I was considering bringing my invisible deck, but I figured I wouldn't have to perform today Next on deck came Doc Daily's Last Trick, stunner, no question...nothing too much to say about it. Back in Time (Sankey)... tis another flawed performance but amazing reaction. I mis-said "upside down all around poker shuffle" and called it "the underground upside down all around suffle" but it confused them enough for the moment so I could demonstrate. I thought I caught more cards on the turnover than I should have! GAH...I didn't know until the top card turnover when I flashed their card! BAH. BUT!!! after they stabbed the card in, they were amazed that the deck fixed itself and their card was the only one still face up...so it all worked out, a kind of impromptu ID. This far in, and several CMH's later I had already introduced my second deck and was going to do Chicago Opener (yes, I know it seems late). I saw from the corner of my eye one of the kids spotted me stealing a red card so I casually placed it back, I should have done the Darwin Ortiz top move he uses in one of his tricks to do the dirty work, but it didn't occur to me. It felt good. I felt energized...heck, I was having a dull day until I hit my performance period. Considering I had not worked out my patter nor transitions, I think it came out *** well, and I don't think they will remember the 'mistakes'. I didn't even bring my half dollars to matrix with. I haven't worked out an ACR yet to keep with the patter idea. I figure I should have one as a closer. My routine starts strong, but I still haven't gotten the opportunity to find the 'happy ending'. I will eventually, but not quite yet. Meltdown (in the mail) and Pocket Finger Chopper (also in the mail) would have been nice too. I am considering building a Hundy 500 ...or rather a Hundy 50 but I am trying to find the right spot to place it into. I had fun, the kids had fun, I plugged Copperfield's show this weekend. Phewwwwww! WOW! I'm tired, but happy! I almost have a whole routine. - Alex PS. I plan on adding a 3 fly and a matrix, feel free to PM me with ideas on what to add. My routine stands as the following (I take out the gimmicks when needed) ID CMH Master Link Harlan's Linking Bands GAH! I forgot crazy twist vanish! Snap << Inserting Meltdown upon arrival Jumping Gemini ...leading into NFW (when I get the handling at 150% quality) .. leading into Doc Daily's Last Trick ... leading into The Four Burglars ... ala Malone On the Loose 4 ... leading into For Marlo .. David Regal, but using jacks from the Burglars Red Handed .. David again...powerful stuff! Chicago Opener ...(hmmmm, dunno) Back in Time (Sankey) ... have I over done it? Feel free to 'steal' my whole setup, but you might not be comfortable performing it *shrug* I have my own rubber band trick I'm working on mixing in, but it is still horrible when it comes to the handling. Thanks for you time!
So you want to market or sell your trick? Before you do, read this!

You asked if we think you are overdoing it. No. If the kids love it, and you need to audience test then Daff says, Go for it man!

It might be a good idea to have a few effects set up beforehand even while you are practicing. That way, you can avoid getting caught unprepared.
If anyone sees my sanity, please return it to

I don't mind performing on the spur of the moment but you can fall in to the trap of doing too much and the spectators getting bored, I have always used the golden rule always leave them wanting more.

That can be a tall order, though, when they are literally begging you for "just one more!"
