I'm actually looking for a set that matches the set marketed and sold with Jose's Color Fusing...I am looking for the standard set not the actual Color Fusing Set...I will try to post pictures, but if anyone happens to know what I am talking about, any help on finding a set would be much appreciated, Thanks, RJ

I'm sort of picky when it comes to color changing knives. Although I have many sets by many different makers, my two favorites to perform with are custom sets by J.P. Jackson and Lanny Kibby. The J.P. Jackson sets are made with Case knives and unlike many of the less expensive sets out there, including the Mogar knives, they look like authentic pocket knives should look and they handle beautifully. They're fairly difficult to find these days, but if you're persistent, they occasionally show up on Ebay and other sale sites.
My main complaint about the Mogar knives is that they have a bolster only at one end. Modern pocket knives have bolsters at each end. I know that many will say it doesn't matter, but to me it's the difference between using gimmicked coins by Lassen or cheaper, inferior coins. |

I don't know why "Doug" came up on my last post...I wanted to thank Donal for the help...I just had to clear that up...

FYI, Daryl's knives are great, but your hands must have good 'tack' to them to use them effectively. My hands are dry and slippery as glass, and so I have to apply some violin rosin or bowler's (as in the game) grip cream to my fingertips in order to use them.
Mogar's are much easier to handle in this regard, but I do have an affection for Daryl's.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

I own numerous sets of CCK and my current favorites are those made by Ray Szwec. Fully function and relatively heavy. I love the way they feel.
Like Chessman, my hands are quite dry and slick, yet the Szwec knives work every time. Highly recommended.

Re Josephs comment on Daryls routine, I too like this but found the knives almost unworkable. The solution is to use Mogars "perfect knives" but with Darlys routine. Works well and gets good recations.

Apologies to Daryl for spelling his name wrong in the above post, just 'cos he changed his name it didn't give me the right to do the same!!

My Magic Reference Guide to the Color Changing Knives can be found at: http://magicref.tripod.com/magref/magknife.htm
and an article with photos of many of the knives is at: http://magicref.tripod.com/magref/artknife.htm And an article on Merril at: http://magicref.tripod.com/magref/art_rdmerrill.htm Needs some updating; last update was 2009, but most of the info is still current. Enjoy! Doug A. |

Wish you would be more thorough and detailed.........(smile) BTW.....in my opinion, the knives themselves don't matter as much as the performer and the routine they do.....best I have ever seen doing the knives was Matt Schulien way back when....next best was Scotty York.....then Tamariz with his "Rainbow of Knives" routine...... |

I've thought about going the Flash drive route as well. I'm not sure however. I still like the C.C.K. True you can't carry them aboard an aircraft if you travel. As for best set even though best is very subjective. I would agree with quite a few that have posted. The Mogar knives are tops.
Tabbman suggested a couple of years ago that one could find a set of knives he liked and just buy the extra one or two needed and remove the scales and make your own set that way. It's an idea that does work. I would say if one went with the Mogar knives they will be glad they did. |

Joe's knives are works of art. he's apparently made his last set of the mini knives, which are particularly elegant. and no one handles color-changing knives like joe; check out his video. recommended: mogar knives + ascanio book + watch some of juan Tamariz doing his routine

I often pass out a basket of various objects and allow spectators to select items with which I perform -- a cheat on having a routine planned. Plus it eliminates any need for items to be examined. One of these objects can be a penknife. So, the knife can be completely natural to the setting, and a switch simple while retrieving it from the spectator. At the end of the routine I have used the knife for a CR rope effect to increase the "natural" impression.
Alterantely, if someone request an effect with the rope in the basket you request the knife as needed and then have a spectaor hold it or cut the rope with the open knife. Any later Knife effects are then enhanced.
