Are we also going to learn how David did the Berglas effect under seemingly impossible conditions, for Barrie Richardson while driving a car, for Richard Kaufman at home without touching the deck, etc.?

Nope, it's nothing like that. See The Mind And Magic of David Berglas for an outline of how the effect is achieved.

...and I add the commas with my version of Holy Grail for stage performance:

No memory, stooges, pre-show, forces.
Totally hands off.
No electronic device
No gaffed deck.

Enjoy!

but the idea is.

This is obvious if you read the post of Richard Kaufman on Geniimagazine...

In past, talking with Marc Paul, he said me that all you need to know about the Berglas Effect
is already in Mind and Magic. So, I believe what you will find, in this new book, more details,
but if you believe to find a method inside this book I believe this will be your big mistake!

You will find many techniques in order to accomplish an ACAAN almost hands-off and as clean as possible,
but all these information are already inside Mind and Magic.

For this reason you have burned your money if you think that you will find the Grail.

Just my opinion.

Sorry if this is an obviously stupid question (as I'm new here), but when I try to click your link, I get a "You're not authorized to view this topic" message.
What gives?

Read the rules about that section and as you have the necessary requirements, you will access the contents of the link.

That's funny - all that goes into The Berglas Effect just cannot be explained....but nevermind; as a close second, the book DOES have miracles! Smile

Just if you are interested in ACAAN, Boris Wild's book dealing with this plot is now available (in french only). I think it is one of the best version available now. Here are the key points, translated (by me) from the french description:

1. No stooge, nor instant stooge, no pre-show
2. Deck displayed before the trick, and stays in his box until the end (box checked by a spectator).
3. Freely chosen number (1 to 52)
4. Freely chosen card
5. Third spectator delas the cards.
6. Magician never touches the cards, and does not open the box.
7. Three spectators randomly chosen
8. No manipulation, no equivoque, no force
9. No memorized deck
10. No roughing fluid
11. No multiple scenario
12. Can be repeated, quick reset
13. Cards dealt face up
14. No duplicates

Everyone look for the Berglas Effect and many consider it like the perfect ACAAN.

I want just to clarify that if you consider this effet:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdXIVQ-asqU

or this one:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yquvd8dnOwA

like The Berglas Effect you make a mistake.

And also if you consider this effect like The Berglas Effect...

http://soundcloud.com/dodococo/berglas-acaan

This last one is just a statistical method with minimal handling
(This is just the best case and it is not the Berglas Effect )

The core of the Berglas Effect is this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96ZksO8kC5E&feature=related
a sequence of effects where one of these will be The Berglas Effect (he builds this impossible effect in his performance)
and for this reason it will be very hard to perform if you are not David Berglas, but exists someone
that created something to reach the same result and better. You can find it here:

http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......rum=37&0

This solution appears a bit long, but it is easy and has a guideline (perhaps this solution will be appreciated in second
moment after everyone read the original version) istead the original Berglas Effect is something like
The Trick Cannot Be Explained.

How can it be the "best" case? He performed it for the interviewer, and before it happened he had to be sure that it was going to work! Otherwise, DB would not have taken the risk to record the effect, but rather would have performed another trick. His ACAAN does not rely on "chance", it always work, if the context, the conditions, allow him to perform it.

Who said you that he would have performed this effect immediately or as second or third effect?
(Aside that the odds to have an hit are very high. I bet with everyone 10.000$ if someone proves me
that this effect may be done always and with the same conditions.)
His ACAAN works always if the performance is like his video on youtube.
If I make a mistake you will see soon with his revelation in his book.

Dorian.

Are you intimately familiar with "The Trick That Cannot Be Explained" (Vernon, 1960)? It's a great study.

Thanks for mentionning that great man Ben: Dai Vernon. Of course I am familiar with his study, and I use it sometimes (not in gigs, but in a more informal situation, with friends, family...). Do you think the record of DB's ACAAN relies on what is taught in "The trick that cannot be explained"?

Just a small observation. Try to hear carefully what David says at min: 1.14 : "I place the cards in front of you..." ???
So the effect is not hands off or I didn't understand well the english?
