I have just ordered 'Bullets after Dark' in order to get John Bannon's 'The Power of Poker'. I have just seen that Stephen Tucker has an effect called 'Red Hot Poker'. As I very much like the work of both Bannon and Tucker I would like to hear the views of anyone who has both effects and can compare them.

I have both. 'The Power of Poker' and the routines in 'Red Hot Poker' are all variations of Alex Elmsley's classic routine called 'Power Poker'. ‘The Power of Poker’ is actually David Solomon's routine, with additional input from John Bannon.
'Royal Flush Guaranteed' from the Tucker manuscript is very similar to 'The Power of Poker', but you are guaranteed to get the Royal Flush at the end. In Solomon’s trick, you either receive a Straight Flush or a Royal Flush (I don't think this makes much difference to most people). There is a more complex sequence to remember in 'Royal Flush Guaranteed' and this is why I prefer 'The Power of Poker' or the original Elmsley routine. 'Red Hot Poker' contains several routines based on ideas by David Solomon and Andrew Murray. Tucker also includes some interesting presentational ideas. The manuscript also contains a bonus routine from Peter Duffie (which is great btw). However, the best routine in the notes is 'Palm Power Poker' as it brings a new element to the plot (you only have four cards while your opponent has five). For me, this routine made the purchase worthwhile. If you're really into this plot, then 'Red Hot Poker' is definatley worth buying. If not, I'd just stick with the version taught by Bannon on 'Bullets After Dark'. You might also want to check this thread out too. HTH, Marty |

Thanks a lot Marty for your comments. I had seen the thread that you gave but it did seem to descend into a who did what when thread at one point. All I wanted this time was a straight forward comparison between John Bannon and Stephen Tucker. You have given me an extremely clear answer and a very good comparison. I will now purchase the Stephen Tucker version and compare myself.
Thanks again Don |

Yeah, it's a shame when threads go bad like that. However, that one does at least contain some interestings points on crediting.
Hope you enjoy the notes. Marty |
