We are having Kozmo at the Winter Carnival of Magic in Pigeon Forge in March(3rd-5th).
I was thinking about having a workshop with Koz on Sunday, would anyone be interested? I appreciate any feedback, folks!

GO!! GO!! GOO!! to any workshop by Koz!! They are always worth every penny and MORE. With Koz you always get at least twice the worth of what you pay for. Koz, Frank Starsini, and Bobby Maverick are each and everyone of them honest and generous. Anything you get from any of those guys will be of the highest quality at the fairest price. Koz will teach you to make some serious money busking.

Altho I´ve never seen Kosmos live, in person,.. I´ve read his material, and viewed his films. He comes across, to me, to be very commercially oriented,... "how to make a fast, easy buck".
I know this Ideal is quite widespread amongst most of the folks out on the streets; still, I oppose it. I believe, this attitude is what holds back and smears the Profession. I would not go to,.. or recommend Kosmo´s Workshop or Lecture. wishing the best, gallagher hayes. |

I will see Koz in February at my ring here in SC, but I would never pass up a workshop opportunity! Count me in.

I've attended a lecture by Kozmo(although not a work shop), I've seen his dvd and I've watched him perform live on the street. The audiences he performed for when I was watching loved his show, and gave him big hats. His street act is just that--a finely honed act, adpated to fit the challenges of performing on the street. A magician, no matter how good, who was not used to performing in this venue, would bomb. In fact, Kozmo was kind enough to share his pitch with several local magicians when I was watching him, all of whom were good magicians and one of whom was a very respected, nationally known magician. The local magicians, who had had only limited busking experience, were struggling to get crowds and persuade crowds to pay them. It takes a specific skill set to stop an audience, hold an audience, build an audience, and then get them to pay you voluntarily after a street performance. Kozmo has developed those skills and a succesful street act, and is one of the best street magicians I've seen. And the audiences I watched him perform for paid him because they liked him and enjoyed his performances more than the other guys. |

Lol.....working the streets is NEVER easy....I work my butt off out there....i usually don't comment on these kind of comments but this, well deserves a comment...you're wrong
I'm not saying anything about the quality of my lecture or workshop, that will be up to those who see it BUT if you believe that I look at working the streets, my art and that I look at it as making a fast buck, well you clearly don't know anything about me or what I do.... I will also say this, there's no art without money (Cellini). As a father and the head of my family making money was always a very important part of what I do. I had responsibilities at home and so when I left my job all those years ago I knew that there was no option, I had to succeed. Working the streets is the most difficult place to work and succeed. Now anyone can work out there but only the strong survive. You have the right to your opinion, have at it but I promise you, you're wrong Koz |

You don't make the money (fast or slow) unless you give a good product. What are you are you advocating: you've got to be a starving artist to be a good artist? Tell that to Speilberg. Kozmo is so much about money that he gives it away. Every time I see him he buys me dinner.

Glad you jumped in Koz. I was going to jump on Gallager over this one. It's nice to be more concerned with the "art." However this is the real world, not a fairy tale, Gallager. If we are not concerned about money we don't eat. I'll admit that some people busk for grins and have a "real job" but Koz, Bobby, and a lot of us do this for a living. You get a performance review once a year, we get a review from our bosses every 15 minutes. If you don't care about getting a good review then you don't care about the art.

I have been to one of Kozmos lectures (and viewed his DVD repeatedly) and would give both an A+.
I'm sure attending his workshop would be money well spent and if I lived within 50 miles I'd definitely go. (Although I don't know about driving 51 miles...) |

My view of busking comes from the old guys - I am old school after all - but I was always taught to GTFM.
I think noland, Koz and Paddy summed it up well.

Here is the thing I guess I'm not getting...
Why do the two have to be mutually exclusive? Why can't you perform an "artistic" show that is commercial and will make you money? I'm reminded of a quote from another well know performer, "Art for Art's sake, money for God's sake!" I perform on the streets, and I unashamedly do it for money. While I want to make money, I believe that making my show as good as it can be actually helps me to make more money. Anyway, just my 2 cents... |

Where does this idea come from that I don't want my show to be as good as possible?.

Gallagher,
You said "Altho I´ve never seen Kosmos live, in person"...maybe you should leave it at that till you do see his show. If you saw his DVD did you really watch the show or are you just jumping on someone elses bandwagon?? "I´ve read his material, and viewed his films." Read what material and what films. He has a DVD out...did you even watch it?? His effects are very original and artistic. You would have seen this if you had "seen him live". Fast money in the streets?? Really?? Fast, easy money. I thought you work the streets, no such thing. I would comment about your show by just your posts but that would make me an ill informed idiot. I think at times you have some great posts but don't come on here bashing someone you have never seen work or are you playing the Troll? You are uninformed. SOrry Scott, didn't mean to sidetrack your thread. |

I do believe that there has been a misunderstanding on this thread. Gallagher clearly thought the thread was referring to "Kozmos" Kramer from the Seinfeld show. As any fan of that show knows, Kramer was, indeed, always looking to make a fast, easy buck. I believe my favorite was when he was lodging the Japanese tourists in his oversized dresser.
