Twenty-five, fifty, maybe a hundred, or even two hundred magicians converge on a public space. This isn't an impromptu meeting, it's not a convention, nor is there anything unusual about the time or place.
A park: sunbathers, joggers, kites and Frisbees. An ordinary day but infiltrated by magicians; this meeting has been planned, rehearsed and timed with military precision -- but most importantly, no one suspects a thing. What fun we can have! The grandest of illusions happens out of the blue and when the 'show's' over, the magicians leave -- taking no credit and remaining anonymous. No cameras, no news reporters, no publicity. Later that day -- and after the excitement has fermented -- the group admits responsibility. The Merry Pranksters with tricks up their sleaves! |

Pop,
Making a performance art magic happening at a beach would be wonderful. I hope the organization and planning can keep the items performed to context appropriate material. All kinds of things can be done with sand, shells, bottles/cans of soda, towels, etc. Best to you and all who join your effort. As to merry pranksters... well you might want to read the thread about legend building and perhaps give the team t-shirts a few months later for a big area convention. The newspaper articles, etc... could serve as sufficient recognition instead of 'fessing up'

Since the first post, I realised there already are groups of people doing this kind of thing already -- circle makers. Is there anything that creates more grand-scale bemusement and curiosity than a cropcircle?

sure... predictions posted in crop lettering.
perhaps seed planting of flowers that spell words in fields... which show up months later. back to the beach; burying appliances that permit levitations, how about producing sand castles that in turn open up and produce scantilly clad women??? it's beach time of year in the northern hemisphere. igloo time in the southern??
