Hello all,

The search engine is back online, though in a limited version. It's exactly as it was except now you will be required to search a specific forum at a time. Further, the 2-minute wait period has been removed. I know you all want better, but it's all I can manage at the moment (time-wise).

The search engine will remain limited until the new search engine is complete. However, that will be awhile as I need to rewrite nearly every module used by the current search engine and my available time for coding is limited. The new search engine will have the same feel of the current one but will operate differently. It should not require a complete reindexing of all the posts either.

Please keep in mind that the limited search engine may be temporarily removed for adjustments if it, too, causes any outages.

Why can't we search our old posts anymore? It just asks for a forum now.

I can't remember where my posts were as there are so many different forums. When will this feature return?

Well, we can't because Gene is re-doing it to make it better.
It'll come back when Gene gets it fixed.

I the meantime, you can always use a Google search for your username and "site:themagiccafe.com". If you go into the Advanced properties, you can set it for within the last 30 days. I can't figure out how to sort it by date posted, though.

Reread what Gene said. He's working on a solution but in the meantime has given everyone something to work with.

It's difficult to please everyone. When there was 2 minute wait period between searches, we had many complaints. When the search engine was taken down completely to fix problems and work on a better solution,we had many complaints.

Gene has eliminated the 2 minute wait and returned a partial search function. This is a long process and Gene is doing the best he can to get a resolution.

Gene knows what he's doing. He and Mary have hosted my site for years. Awesome service.
The wait for the search engine will be worth it when he is finished.

Just curious - was the Café search engine connected to searching for a users posts within the last 30 days? I'd thought they were separate, but when I tried use that function just now the error message came up. Just wondering!

Thanks for the honesty. Most techs would throw in a bunch of gobbledygook and make it sound like there an army of technicians are working on it 24x7.
