I have a simple question.
Standard or CE? Which one looks better? Also, does CE fit inside the Witches Box?

Both look great. Yes the CE does fit inside the witch box.

From the pictures I like the colours of the standard witches, but the spiral binding puts me off a bit. Did they have spiral binding in the 1930s?
I do like the look of them both though, I'd buy both if I could afford it, but alas I can't. So really I guess I'm looking for opinions on which one people think is more authentic looking. Oh, does anyone here use Ipswich with Witches? If you do, how do they play together. Overkill? Or great combo? I imagin the latter. But feel I should ask before parting with my cash

The spiral bound is creepier and darker looking
Looks better in the witch box too. It's also easier to use for the spectator, opens easily. The hardbound is very cool, my personal preference is the original. |

Lol, I guess I'll keep my opinion to myself, someone likes the Dekranom
It's really cool, you'll love it, cover is faded and looks all old and yellowed. Much better in hand than the photo Thanks! |

Ordered Ipswich too. Reduced to just $100 at the moment. Can't wait to start work on them both. ...... And the Templar will also be winging its way to me. I can't wait to use this. Someone's having Xmas dinner at Inner Temple, London this festive season followed by Carol Service in Temple Church Could that be a more perfect setting for this effect?

I have Ipswitch and the Almanac. Never used them together though. Too similar in my opinion to use together. Both are coded with 3 digit numbers that the spec looks up. The Ispwitch is used in every seance I perform and it absolutely kills. The WA is used in every reading I have every done and, frankly, I don't do readings without it. Both are top shelf items and I don't think anyone reading this should buy either under any circumstances.

Rosalyn,
I debated with myself over the same decision...CE or Original. I too was slightly discouraged by the spiral binding. I was concerned that my sitters/spectators would question the authenticity based on the binding (even though I knew that it existed in 1938) - I didn't want to have to explain the history of spiral binding every performance. I found an unused Almanac (original), that was posted here at the Café, for a great price, so I decided to just go for it. My worries quickly faded when my hands first held the almanac. The look, the feel, would pass any amount of scrutiny. I've now performed this powerful book about a hundred times and NO ONE HAS EVER ASKED ABOUT THE BINDING or even questioned if it was real! I love my original almanac. I smoked it out with incense and have old photographs from the 30s in between some pages. I've literally had people not want to "touch it" out of superstitions and fears. My advice - don't do what I did and sit on the fence for a month. I wasted way too much practice and performance time! Once you have this thing, you'll wish you had it sooner. |

Spiral binding is perfectly correct in 1938. No one can question that.

I completely understand. But I've gone for CE. The main reason for that is I have other olde magick type books that I use as stage dressing. These are all hard back and all have genuinely aged in the same way.
Even if I don't use Ipswich at the same time as Witches both books will be on display at the same time along with the other books on magick. I'm in the process of weaving a story that binds them all together. That also brings in some of Doug's beauties too. For me the plainer, more unassuming look of CE is what made me buy it. I had to choose the one I believed to be real. Really can't wait to try it.

Read my story "the Coney Island Witch" on the same forum section, you'll have an idea about what I've done with the WA.

WOW!!!
That's amazing! Where do you perform this? I mainly do my shows at outdoor events. Mainly using sideshow and escapes. I've decided that I want to give more. Flesh things out a bit and make my show more than the "normal" sideshow type performance of one effect after the other. Creating a story that brings things together is the way I want to go. Give a reason to how I got into sideshow... Thanks for your help with this. Better get writing

I perform only at private parties, mostly for companies, in very nice places. I usually have my own place for magic and storytelling. (I don't do strolling or table hopping magic.)
In animation format, I need 20/30 minutes units that can be easily carried. This story/show fits perfectly my needs. It's a full 20/30 minutes show. |

Sounds perfect.. One day <sigh>
....... Although I'd be lying if I said I didn't thrive on the hustle of the outdoor fayre. The dirt, sweat and sawdust is just in my veins. But I wouldn't say no to the odd bit of corporate action

So, my Dekranom finally made it through the snow and ice and arrived safe and sound this morning.
I now understand why people react the way they do when first seeing something from Outlaw. All I can say is if they make a simple hardbacked book look so amazingly authentic then props like reanimator must be off the scale! I was expecting it to be good. But like everything I've come across so far in my short journey into Bizarre magic my expectations have been massively exceeded. So thank you Team Outlaw for spending the time to create such wonderful items. The hardback version of Witches was by far the right decision for me and I highly recommend it to anyone wanting something that looks 100% genuine. But then I'm preaching to the converted here. You all already know how great it is. Now to learn it. Create a presentation that fits with the rest of the show and get the whole thing ready for the 2011 summer run Ros PS Templar is equally as amazing and my copy of Ipswich is waiting for collection.
