I have had this crazy idea for a few years now. The visual on this looks good in my mind, but can it be done is the question.
Simply hold a balloon in your hand. Suddenly the balloon is seen to quickly inflate itself. Tie the balloon so the air doesn't escape and hand it to a spectator. Here is the killer move, you hand the balloon to the spectator, let go of it before the spectator can grab it and it floats up to the ceiling! |

Nice idea. Here's a variation: Don't show the balloon until it's already inflated. For example, you hold up a silk, and when you move it away, the inflated balloon is behind it. Or you reach in to your jacket and produce multiple inflated balloons.

I could hold the balloon in full view and show it being inflated. I have found something that would do this. Also the balloon can float away as described, but always I'm not good at building things.

Ah, another customer looking for small helium canisters.
The 'how' is trite. The engineering is YOUR challenge. I'd suggest you start with places like Edmund Scientific. Go for it!

Do you use a 240 balloon or regular ones, because I'm trying to find something (not helium though) to inflate 240 balloons!

There are at least two simple chemical methods of constructing a self-inflating balloon. Unfortunately, neither one uses helium—but then neither did Okito's floating ball. So, if you want to do the described effect on a stage...

All the world's a stage ... and everybody on it is overacting.

I saw something similar to this where a guy swallowed an inflated balloon, lie the ones you use to make balloon animals and then later in the routine pulled the inflated balloon from his mouth. It was pretty cool.
