Same to you! I sure am missing it being overseas this year, though the fresh blanket of snow we have here in the northeast of England certainly is helping

Happy Thanksgiving to my American cousins! You may be a month late, but at least you have the sense to make it a 4-day weekend.

Some of you might like to try this potato dish today, if it is not too late (see video):
http://thestar.blogs.com/stargazing/2010......ial.html Not really a dish, I guess. More of a conversation item.

A little TOO quiet for me (I'm bored and tired of rehearsing for the day, and I have to wait another three hours (midnight here) before I can Skype with family at home.)
Anyone crazy enough to go shopping tomorrow? I wonder if there's an equivalent to Black Friday here in the UK?

Thanks. What is it about, the start of winter?

We celebrate the exchange of land and agricultural techniques, for booze and small pox. Although nowadays, it's the feast before the Big Shop.

You have got it all wrong. Yes black Friday is tomorrow, and shopping will be crazy, but there is a bumper to bumper traffic jam around our local outdoor mall for thanksgiving night shopping. All the dads are watching football, or zonked out from over eating, and the moms are out POWER SHOPPING. Tommy We celebrate when the Pilgrims, and Indians feasted after their first successful harvest in the new world, and we eat turkey the native bird that they hunted here.

Essentially Al is correct...enough for your needs. The Pilgrims were scumbags.

Myth! Martin Frobisher celebrated thanksgiving in Newfoundland in 1578. And the Spanish in Florida beat Frobisher by having their first thanksgiving in 1565. The first in Virginia was apparently in 1619.
Apart from all that, the Pilgrims had the first Thanksgiving in 1621. John

Countries have had days of thanksgiving well before 1578. The feast that is referenced took place in 1623 not 1621 and was not refered to as 'Thanksgiving' which would indicate a day of prayer. Thanksgiving was, as it exist now, in rememberance of the three day feast the evil puritanical pilgrims had which they invited the indians to in order to seem PC.

When I was a boy the corn fields around here were full of ring neck pheasants, and you never saw a wild tukey. Today 50 years later there are absolutely no pheasants, but the wild turkeys, duck, and Canada geese are everywhere. The state conducts geese shootings just to controle the geese population, but at sundown the skies are full of Canada geese.

What is your point? We also have pheasants, wild turkey, Canadian geese, and I've so many quail running around my yard it is nuts.

Repeat after me CANADA geese. I think that a Canadian goose would be the goose with a Canadian drivers license.
