I just received my dice in the mail today. I recently got the Sacks Dice Routine video and ordered the suggested dice from a place here in L.A. (T.R. King). I really love this trick and look forward to getting in some practice, not to mention eventually performing it!
I will be searching and possibly posting for request for help if i run into any problems or maybe just for some tips from those of you who perform this routine.

I do Bob Sheets' _It's the Rules_ routine with a set of 25mm dice I got from the Gambler's General Store in Vegas and have never failed to get a positive reaction.

The one thing I would recommend concentrating on is starting hand position for each move. Look at the dice, determine the faces you want to show next, and position your hand so those faces appear after the next pivot.

Hi there and thanks Curt, I know what you mean. Getting the hold on the die is everything and using a mirror to see what the spec will be seeing each time you rotate them has been very helpful too.

I will be checking out other routines eventually and thanks for the mention of Bob Sheets. Thanks for the ditto on that one Mark.

I know Reed McClintock has his Ivory Connection dvd too, another one I will eventually look at. I just decided to start out with the Doctor Sacks video to get me going. I do not know how it compares to other routines yet.

Since I was in ER until 2:30 last night and found out I have kidney stones, I will have even more time to practice as long as I am not too delirious from the pain meds. Woohoo

Back when I was young and foolish I learned the Dr Sack routine from the Bruce Elliot book Classic Secrets of Magic. It was one of the few items in my fledgling repertoire that fooled my father. He never let on, mum told me years later that he could simply not fathom it.

Later on I discovered that Elliot had originally published the routine in issue No 152 of the Phoenix. Apart from the editorial (The Back Room)it takes up the entire issue.

Now here's one for you. In that editorial Elliot wrote:

"This routine is the backbone of a longer routine that the doctor does. If you are very good children and eat up all your porridge perhaps we can prevail on him to reveal the rest of it."

Well did he? Have I been taking my porridge like a man all these years for nothing?

I bought the Video from Bob at the Blackpool convention last year. Absolutely Brilliant. It is definitely my most performed effect. I make sure that I am never more than 10 feet from a pair of Dice!

Little tip, a pair of casino dice fit perfectly into the Ticket pocket of a pair of Jeans.

It's a brilliant routine. I do it all the time. I was at someone's house this weekend, picked up a pair of dice from a board game and did the trick. After doing it with 3/4" dice, the little dice from the game (even though they had rounded edges) were easy to use.

The look on your spectator's faces after doing this trick is priceless.

It's better than any card trick I know.

I was always curious as well... the differences between:

Steve Draun's version on his video, Bob Sheets, Steve Dobsen's (along with the added ending change by Reed).
I think that Daryl teaches a version on one of his fooler dooler DVD's as well.

The spots on the dice change multiple times, the effect has a great ending, and the move used is different and in my opinion easier and more effective than the move used in similar routines.

"It's the Rules." Why I like it.

Firstly, It's a full routine, ready to go. I must admit I do it more or less word for word off of the video, and it Kills.

Secondly, The "Move" is suitable for dice up to about 1.5 inches. Which I don't think is the case with the original Sachs Routine. Which means it can be seen by more people. I regularly perform with 1" dice for groups of up to a dozen at a time.

PS. Yes I know in an Ideal world I should probably work out my own routine but, Hey this one works. Normally I start with a routine, and after many performances and much rehearsal, (not necessarily in that order,) The routine Mutates into something either completely different from, or at least only vaguely related to the original. With this routine almost nothing has changed.

Fooler Doolers Vol. #3 has the Sacks Routine and Daryl does a wonderful job presenting this truly magical and entertaining routine.

James Lewis also performs and explains the trick on video. Good luck learning the trick. The Dr. Sacks Dice routine (Spotted Sorcery) is one of my favorite tricks to perform; I have so much fun performing it.
