I believe that we're not alone in the galaxy, but the notion of spaceships in our skies is a little far-fetched. But then again, many true things would appear that way at first.

UFOs... sure
extraterrestrials here... probably not. i think it's funny that 'aliens' and 'UFOs' seem to have arrived right about when we brought over lots of foreign scientists with new ideas about aircraft.

U.F.O.s absolutely exist.
Here in Vegas, every morning (about 6 a.m.), there's a white plane with no registration markings and only a single red stripe, that takes off from McCarran airport. It's unidentified. It flies. It's an object. It seems to fit the three major criteria. For those who are curious, it's taking workers up to Groom Lake, home of the famous "Area 51". At about 4:30 p.m., it returns to Las Vegas. |

I have seen things in the sky that I can't identify, but nothing that looked like an extraterrastrial vehicle.
Maybe Amadeus-Magi meant to ask the question: "Do aliens visit earth?" Personally, I wonder if sitings of U.F.O.'s, religious visions, etc are all experiences of encounters with multi-dimensional beings. My neighbors fish commercially in Alaska every summer. While they are gone, they rent their house out for the summer. For the last 5 years they have rented the house to a retired couple from Roswell NM. I have gotten to know them as our "Summer Neighbors" over the last several years but had never brought up the subject of the Famous 1947 UFO crash. But last year my father-in-law and a friend of his were visiting us. I invited our neighbor over for a visit as I thought they might enjoy meeting one another ( all three are in their 80's). As we were talking it came up that our neighbor was from Roswell. My father-in-law asked about the UFO stuff. I was amazed that our neighbor insisted it was a real UFO incident and government cover-up. He claimed to know the family that owned the field where it landed. Who Knows??? |

UFO's? I don't know. The possibility of other life? Why not? Maybe not in our Galaxy, or the one next door but if we're here then why not someone else somewhere else.
I remember seeing on television a scientist saying that if there was life on other planets then we would already know about it because they would already have been here or contacted us (ie. he didn't believe in the possibility). I thought this was a strange perspective since there may be a scientist on a planet in another galaxy thinking exactly the same thing. |

I can certainly imagine there being life on other planets - there are sure a lot of planets out there, chances are another one somewhere meets the criteria for supporting life, but why is it that we assume they will be far more advanced than us? What about amoeba, or really stupid fish type creatures or something. Life yes...super intelligent life with amazing energy sources and far superior technology......less likely in my opinion!

Chris,
My sentiments too. When I heard the scientist (that I mentioned in my previous post) say what he said, I wondered why we always have the sci-fi picture in our heads of alien life being super intelligent - and intelligence aside: do they have opposable thumbs (or their anatomical equivalent)? |

Which film you are going to see...
Earth vs. Amoeba & Really Stupid Fish Earth vs. Super-intelligent Beings with the Anatomical equivalent of Opposable Thumbs and Far More Advanced Technology I know it's the way I vote with my box-office dollars!! |

I think like Scott does. If it fits the three criteria, then it is indeed a UFO

Ok, this is in reply to the above two posts
RE: the post about the funny movie titles: hahahahahahahahaha!!! very good! RE: the post about the three UFO criteria: I do agree in the literal, but Scott then went on to identify the object, thus removing it from category 1 (Unidentified). However, we all know that in the context of the question UFO was referring to alien craft - designed and piloted by beings from another planet.

I have to believe there are intelligent being on other planets out there...capable of interplanetary travel.
I have trouble believing we're as good as it gets.

There's got to be something out there. If aliens do exist I don't believe they look like in the movies. I think they look totaly diffrent. One thing I don't belive is that some people have been abducted by aliens. That's wacky. When they descibe how the aliens look lik,e they describe it exactly like in the movies.

True, but did the modern image of aliens and UFOs first come from the wacky imaginations of science-fiction writers or actual accounts of people who believed they were abducted. Which came first? I'm not really a sci-fi buff myself so maybe someone else knows.

I wish there were more reports of hairless big-eyed greys and hi-tech brightly lit flying machines from before the first world war, but there are just a few. While our cultural melting pot burped up HP Lovecraft's stories about "old ones" and "deep ones" in the early twentieth century, it was only later with a cold war, nuclear fears and actual zeplins and rockets in the air that the "alien visitations" began.
There was a very interesting film: "Endangered species" about another interprtation of the reported phenomena. It may be a while before folks are comfortable enough to consider likely possibilities. I do recall a clever interpretation done by the sci-fi folks. This story suggested that the aliens and really just evolved humans doing research in their past. The flying machines are really time machines, and the pilots are a bit like evolved autistic children with a talent for navigating space and time in about the same way we have autistic savants that can do amazing things with numbers. Perhaps one day a visitor may show up in midtown Manhattan, and walk in on one of our morning shows with a request to read a greeting from 'somewhere else'. Till then, aliens remain a sci-fi metaphor to help tell stories about us and how we are.

Well, I read one book (I don't remember the name), and I found a theory stating that the God we believe is Alien and the Cloud that guided Moses is the UFO

I find it so amusing that we live in a world filled with wonderful creatures in the forest which many of us have never seen or some who've yet to be discovered and named, yet continue to be fascinated with "Aliens" .....

Greetings,
I believe that there is life on other planets, otherwise the universe would be one BIG waste of space, don't you think? Now, if there's intelligent life or more intelligent/advanced than us... who knows? But all the stories about UFOs certainly do not convince me; just because I see something strange in the sky it does not automatically mean that it is extraterrestrial... most likely some advanced prototype of some aircraft or something. |

I believe in UFOs, but if they are looking for something interesting to watch, then Earth must be the Home Shopping Network of the universe. That or the Comedy Channel.
