Andi,
What ONE performer would you say has influenced you more in magic than any other and why? (Feel free to mention any other important ones too) Also, what one book or DVD (or set) has been the most infuential to you? I'll be honest, I'd find it hard to list just one of each of the above myself as I have a list of about 5 or 6 performers I really like and feel have influenced me and keep their various books and DVDs. But then, you're here to answer the tough ones, I'm not! Regards, Martin.

Hi Martin,
I was dreading this question coming up, because I'm terrible at having favourites and at ranking things in my life! I couldn't give you one, but I could certainly give you a list. Friends like Joshua Jay, Rob James, Ben Earl, Kerry Scorah, Noel Qualter (aka "Primetime"), Tyler Wilson, Alan Hudson, Rodney James Piper and so on are constantly giving me ideas and advice and as such, have become big influences in many areas of my magic. I talk to most of them every day (two of them live opposite me, which makes it easier!) so they have influenced me more than any other magicians. Likewise, it's hard to say which books have had the biggest influence on my work. I have read thousands of magic books (my office is covered in magic books, wall-to-wall) so it's difficult to say which has had the biggest impact. When I was younger, I always admired Martin Nash's books a lot and nowadays I read a lot of magic by Karl Fulves (I now own a pretty much complete set of all Fulves books and magazines), Ed Marlo, Alex Elmsley and so on. It's a long list and I couldn't really point out which books have had the biggest influence. Sorry for being so feeble! --Andi

I thought it might be fun to list the books that I'm currently reading as that may also give you an idea of the kind of magic that influences me. I'm terrible at reading one book at a time, instead jumping in and out of books whenever I feel like it. Therefore, I'm currently reading these books:
- House of Mystery by Teller and Todd Karr - Annemann by Max Abrams - Del Day by John Moehring - Magic by Design by John Carney - Zarrow by David Ben All are great and all are highly recommended! --Andi

I too have many names that have influenced me in the world of magic and many subjects and authors also.
What about mundane influences, the non magicians and non magic authors that have given you inspiration or ideas in the creation of magic? |
