I have heard that you can soak a cotton ball in rubbing alcohol and place the soaked ball on your palm and ignite it and it will not burn your palm or hand. Can someone tell me if this is true. I read this on a review site and don't have the nerve to try without finding out if this is really true. Anyone know for sure? Steve

It's not true, and I would suggest to all, alcohol has NO PLACE in fire magic!

Well... let me make sanscan my own words "... I would sugges to all, alchohol has NO PLACE in fire magic!"

Anyhow, for the sake of clarity what you've heard is actually true. While the fire don't evaporates all the alchool on the cotton, you are somehow "safe". The problem is, from the momment that you don't feel anything to the momment where you start screamming is a split second.

This experience can be taken a little further is you use your hand, instead of the cotton. The same thing will happen... no initial pain, but after the alchool evaporates, you better have some way to put out the fire!!!!

Let me add... fire has no place in magic, if you don't know what you are doing.

Thanks guys... A follow up about alcohol. It has a tendency to splatter, and in most cases burns invisibly with just s pale blue aura if it is impure. An oft unconsidered fact is that it can burn unnoticed for a very long time, for example, in the cracks between floor boards. Trust me and five decades of experience, you will make an error someday. CYA!

I think real fire do have a place in magic. But I am a juggler as well as a magican. Dubé wrote a book about fire eating and palm burning. It is calles "Fire Eating" and doesn´t cost all to much. http://www.dube.com

And having a flame in your palm isn´t a problem, really. Neither on your tonge. The only problem with fire and magic is that your hands tend to be a bit sticky after a firesession. That really sucks if you pick up the cards afterwords. Smile

Good luck!

We are talking about alcohol. Actually I have mixed magic fire-eating, and sideshow effects since 1949. In Vol 7 of Shocked and Amazed, I think there is a pic of me eating fire without torches. (Bare handed)
