KANSAS CITY, MO — Three people are in custody following a shooting near a pizza restaurant in Waldo late Tuesday night, authorities said.

Authorities say that Eric M. Price, 38, was leaving work at Waldo Pizza near 74th and Wornall Road around 10:20 p.m. when he was approached by a person on a bicycle, who trapped Price in his car. Price was then shot in the head by another person who had walked up to his car.

Police say that Price was able to call 9-1-1 for help, and was able to talk to police when they arrived on the scene. He was taken to an area hospital in serious condition, where friends say he is expected to make a full recovery.

One of the people taken into custody, Michael H. Hudson, was charged with felony assault and armed criminal action charges.

As an update, they have arrested three teenagers in connection with the shooting. I'll post updates as they become available.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Three teenagers were taken into custody in connection with a shooting late Tuesday night in Waldo, police said.
The man was shot in the head in a parking lot on 74th Street near Broadway Street about 10:20 p.m. Tuesday night, Kansas City, Mo., police said.
After the man was shot, he called police, who said the man was conscious and able to talk with them when they first arrived. The man’s injuries were determined to be significant, and he was taken to the hospital, where he is in serious condition, police said.
KMBC's Peggy Breit reported that the victim is a magician who entertained customers once a week at Waldo Pizza. "Eric the Magician" is known for throwing playing cards and making them stick to the ceiling.
"Just to have it happen in this manner, so close to the restaurant ... I mean, at a place where there are cars, there are people and there are buses and restaurants and bars. It just doesn't make any sense that someone would try to pull something off like this," said Phil Bourne of Waldo Pizza.
"Unfortunately, it's happening everywhere. It's sad that it's happening here," said Kathy Pitman, who grew up in Waldo.
The teenagers are 15, 17 and 18 years old, police said. Jackson County prosecutors said they charged Michael H. Hudson, 17, with first-degree assault and armed criminal action.

Any idea why the kids did it? Were they trying to hijack the car?
Glad to hear he's recovering. I hope the recovery goes well for him.

That's awful,geez.

And that it was kids that did something this cold blooded. I mean, I lived in LA for 2 years. I know there are kids out there shooting guns, but at least most of it in LA was turf war stuff. This sounds like it was just robbery. I dunno whats wrong with those kids but they need to be off the street.

WHen I was a kid in NYC it was common wisdom that the most dangerous kind of criminal was an amateur.
