Anyone own this collectible piece of magic by Definitive Magic called the Atomic Ball? If so, do you like it, do you use it, and what kind of routine do you use? Thanks!

I don't mean to sound rude or dismissive, but what's the point? For $200, you get a convoluted way to vanish a pea-sized ball and make it reappear. Or, is it a penetration? I guess the ball going back into the box means you've won, but is there any rationale given to the process or objects used besides saying it's "a game from the future"?

Michael to understand my rationale one must appreciate collector's quality magic props. I don't just buy a magic prop because it is cool or because everyone is buying it. I buy it because it is a quality piece that I would add to my act. I own a lot of magic effects that look like furniture. For example I own a Jim Steinmeyer Hospitality Illusion and it does not look like an illusion, it looks like a piece of furniture one would find in a home. Gorgeous!

Off my soap box.

Anyway about the Atomic Ball. It is not a convoluted effect all. It is a brilliant idea ripped off and poorly made by a lot of copy cats out there. The Definitive Magic Atomic Ball is done flawlessly and beautifully. I have only owned it for a few days and have already been amazing people with it. It is a vanish, a reappearence and a penetration all in one effect. I have been performing it for two people at a time and have them each get actively involved. It is great when the two people are husband and wife or a couple. I have them each roll a dice and whoever gets the higher wins the game of skill and gets to make the atomic ball vanish(they are un aware that the ball will vanish, which makes it a surprise). Then the "loser" gets to open the box in the end and find the ball back in place. Everything is examinable in the end which is great. Very powerful, personal and interactive magic. All of this is performed with a beautiful piece of collectors quality magic.

Kings to you Mr. Douglas.

Illusionist333, it looks like a nice collector's prop but it appears to me the only way everything is examinable in the end is with a die switch. Correct me if I'm wrong.

If you don't want to sound rude...maybe I will...LOL I agree with you 100%...Just like this effect/prop has 100% ZERO motivation...I do not see any collector value in this effect other than collecting dust..."Game of the Future" Whats the game??? What are those objects and what do they have to do with one another??? I guess the main question is, WHY???

Who makes this prop???

I've been collecting magic for over 30 years and one thing every piece of "collectible magic" I own or seen has "SOME" if not 100% motivation behind it. Even if they are bad effects. I'm sorry...but this very nice looking POS has none. Mechanics alone do not make a piece collectible. For $200 bucks I'd find some "real" collector magic, like a Milson Worth prop or maybe something from the Collectors Workshop...I just don't see $200 bucks of value in this. Maybe I'm wrong...

I don't know if I totally agree that this trick has 0 motivation.

But, I rarely use any of the ideas that are actually supplied with a trick, so I can definately see where the supplied routine would not be so wonderful.

But, I think that you could build a cute routine around the Heisenburg uncertainty principle, and Einstein's remark about "god doesn't play dice". The box could be an isolation chamber, or maybe a momento that you bought at an auction that supposedly belonged to Einstein.

I certainly don't think there's any worse motivation than you see for ZigZag, or sawing a lady in two, etc.

As previously stated my routining idea and the way I present this is listed above. Also the people I have been performing this on really like the effect and how they get to be involved in the magic.

Sleightly_Dangerous BTW almost all of your questions in your post are answered in my previous post above. Why don't you try learning to read before you are rude little scoundrel.

I did read your post...and this is still not a "Collector" piece of magic...it's just bad magic made very nicely...And I am not trying to be rude just being honest...If you feel it works and you are happy with it then that's all that matters...

It's an intriguing principle (I like stuff like this) but the props don't seem to have any relation to one another, which is what confuses me. I had to read the description three times to fully understand what happens...I don't get why the numbers on the die have anything to do with the rest of the trick.
It seems like someone wanted to do something where a ball was taken out of a box, vanished, and reappeared inside the box. To me it looks like they just threw some random items together in order to sell it, but I agree that I don't see the motivation.

I would be interested in seeing an actual presentation of it. Again, I like the idea, but it all feels too random to me.

Ask and you shall receive. Here is a video clip of a very basic presentation. Please keep in mind this video was made as a demo for magicians not an actual presentation you would use on spectators. Here you go and let the comments fly! Enjoy.

Oh by the way...the video does not show this key fact but you can show the inside of the box clearly empty before you close the lid to the box where the ball magically reappears. Thanks.

If you could have 2 spectators each represent a side inside the case where the die and ring is stored. and then have each spectator roll a die using the numbers rolled and have the ball vanish/penetrate or whatever and end up on the side represented by the spectator with the higher roll instead of in the middle...Then you may have something...

Yeah, that in essense is what I have been doing with the routine with two people.
Any other ideas slightly_dangerous I am open to. But I really do enjoy performing it
and seeing the reactions of people....

I love how they talk about how it's this elegant piece of magic, yet that narration and music is some of the worst I've ever witnessed.
Thank you for the link! It was basically what I thought it would be (but I'm a visual person so video helps immensely.)
It would take some thought to figure out a presentation. I can certainly see why you posed the question, as I don't have a clue. It still seems like some random items put together without motivation. Maybe I'm thinking too much into it. I do that. Smile

Yeah, not a favorite of mine either, but the parts aren't that disparate.

Dice are Einsteins'. The box is the one Schroedingers cat was kept in. (Small cat). The ball is a VERY LARGE..I mean friggin' LARGE... HADRON, and the tubes are part of the Cern Large Hadron collider.

I think you could actually have fun with a pair of rubber tipped tweezers that you use to move the ball around. Hand it to a spectator, and then tell them that it's HIGHLY RADIOACTIVE which is why you use the tweezers. Hope you already had your kids ;-)

Explain that according to the Heisenberg uncertainty principle, certain pairs of physical properties can't be measured very well, such as position and momentum. But, in this case, we know the LARGE HADRON is precisely standing still, trapped between Einstein and modern quantum theory...which is why you don't know it's position (show gone).

If you don't like the science angle, let's see......the pipes are part of the railing from the bar in the StarDust casino in Vegas that got imploded in 2007, and this is a memorabilia box you picked up. It contains dice, and a ball that was used to tune the routlette wheels.

Again, kinda funky reasoning, but not impossible.

But, like I said...not a trick I'd probably ever do.

Brody...those are all great ideas. I especially like the Einstein idea. Very intriguing. Just to further emphasize the demo video is precisely that, a demo of the props and what they do. It is intended for magician eyes only. It is not the way I present the effect to spectators.

You would have to see the piece in person to truly appreciate it. The video does not do it justice at all.
