Hey all! I just made my first demo video. Let me know what you think. I know there are obvious things that need improvement, especially pertaining to the amateur quality of the video and the fact that I shot it all in one night. But, I have to work with what I've got. Either way take a look:

That's actually very good - especially considering it's your first attempt and with the limited resources and time.
With the current footage, try to get it down to about a minute. The footage does get repetitive (reaction, then another reaction, then another, etc) even though it's all good footage. Will play better with it being shorter. Add some social proof (newspaper articles, testimonials, etc) to add credibility and proof of happy clients. This will go a long way. Have some way for us to meet you and get to know your personality and approach. Video yourself talking to the camera or let us hear you speaking to the audience. I also wonder if your video will get muted due to the copyright music (but that's youtube policy that I don't know much about). Posted: Dec 7, 2010 11:20pm Just to add: I don't see an issue with the video footage quality. It feels authentic and "real" to me. I wouldn't worry about that part. |

Cool thanks for the advice Scott (BTW, if anyone is looking for a good business coach, Scott Burton is your man. He's great so check him out). As for the song, I did a little research and the Black Eyed Peas allow their music to be played so long as a link is tagged under the video to buy the song.
I agree it doesn't say much about myself. I'll throw in some credentials and quotes since I do have them. A friend of mine also said since it doesn't actually show a trick it isn't easy to follow. I didn't really realize that considering I know all of my tricks haha. Its the simple things sometimes... There's actually another camera of footage to go through, so I'm going to pretty soon because it probably caught an entire routine in good quality. Thanks again! |

On my screen, it seems like it could stand to be a little brighter and with a touch increase in contrast, but that might just be me. The music is way too loud. I couldn't hear much at all what anyone was trying to say. I played it a few times to try to hear them. I agree with Scott's comments about length and being repetitive. When you edit, I would definitely keep the scene with the girl's very surprised reaction. Also agree with needing some sort of personal touch type of thing. I think you have a good first start, and a good attitude about making one, getting feedback here, etc. Just one Beano's humble opinions. |

Thanks good sir! As for the link, that is something that the youtube people put in when they use their software to scan for music. I've seen quite a number of old videos with that same song, tagged, and not taken down. If they take it down, I'll just have to find a new song. But, I'm pretty certain they won't.

Great first attempt, Dave. Like was already said, get it down to 1 min.
I love the gritty feel of the video. Consider a final "call to action" in the video. If you google the phrase with advertising you will see what I mean. Finally, I liked that you didn't show any magic. You showed the reactions. It creates a desire to see the magic. That is what you are going for. Very nice work. |
