So... not sure if we already talked about this. Sick today so bored and post-y. Hope not.
The Green Hornet. Seth Rogan. Asian guy I've never heard of. Still looks good. The preview was funny. Kato looks good. Athletic and funny. Seth Rogan looks funny. Will make an interesting Reid.
I've been waiting a long time for this. Originally, Jet Li was supposed to play Kato, then Stephen Chow (Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle.)
Here's what Jet Li would have looked like as Kato:

That's from the movie Black Mask, which was released around the time I heard Jet was to be Kato. I always thought he looked perfect in the get-up, and he did such an excellent job in Fist of Legend, a Bruce Lee remake. Sadly, it seems the project just took too long to get off the ground.
Still, as I mentioned, new guy looks good and I hope he does justice to the character. He has a chance to make it his own and become an icon. Nobody will ever completely take the place of Bruce though.

Interesting Hornet trivia, The character was a descendant of the Lone Ranger. Read that in a book about the radio and television series years ago.

Didn't the car they drive have a name?

My brother and I had a large (maybe 6") matchbox car style version. I think it had a buzz saw that came out the front end...or maybe that was the toy Batmobile we had.

Anyway, we had both cars. Just remembered the GH car having a name...but cannot remember it.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

Lone Ranger. Tonto.

Green Hornet. Kato.

I see... Smile

Never knew that.

Jay Chou as Kato will never take Bruce Lee's place as he is already famous as a singer really...

Not that anyone could.

Hope it is still good though.

Wonder if it will be played in period (say, 1950's or 60's) or in today's setting?

Looked modern in the preview.

*Edit- Whoa! Just as I posted that a Green Hornet/Carl's Jr. tie-in commercial came on the TV! Coincidence? Most likely!

The producers intended that Britt Reid's father would be Dan Reid who, 35-40 years earlier, had been the nephew to JOHN Reid who was the Lone Ranger. (John's brother, Bob Reid was one of the Texas Rangers killed in the ambush that John Reid survived.)

One of the original creators of The Green Hornet was also the creator of The Lone Ranger, hence the tie-in.

While the trailer shows the gas gun (modeled more after the one in the Gordon Jones serial than the Van Williams TV series), I was mildly disappointed that they did not also include the sonic 'sting' from the TV series. I like the chain-fed machine guns in the Black Beauty.

I'm hoping they just don't want to tip their hand with the Hornet Sting. Let's cross our fingers that it made it in there.

Now if only they could get Lucy Liu as a villian/love interest for Kato in the sequel. Then Gordon Liu could play her angry Dad... That would be awesome.

I guess Jay Chou has won a bunch of music awards back in Taiwan. Not super familiar with Asian pop music. One of his last movies, "Kung Fu Dunk," sounds a lot like "Shaolin Soccer," so maybe he'll have some Stephen Chow mojo after all. He looks good in the previews anyway.
Wouldn't be fair to try to compare him to Bruce Lee. Lee wasn't even the first Kato, but he is the icon.

Lucy Liu?

I would rather have Grace Park. (Look her up, I know you want to... Smile)

My uncle said his most vivid memory of World War II was Kato instantly changing from a Japanese to a Phillippineno.

Photographs well, but I'll have to see her act. Personality really is important.
